Visit Site for More'Dum Maaro Dum', directed by Rohan Sippy, is a heady cocktail of crime, deceit, love, sex and drama. And yet, somehow, it fails to come together as the slick action thriller that it set out to be.The chief culprit here is the haphazard way this story is told.The moment you find yourself becoming involved with a character, the screenplay shuttles quickly onto the next, leaving you ultimately disconnected with their pain. Back-stories and motives in this film are so laughably silly it’s hard to take them seriously..Post-intermission the film picks up pace, chiefly because you start investing in the character of the determined cop Kamath, played with bite by Abhishek Bachchan. Alas, this too starts weighing in on you with those unending twists and turns, giant loopholes in the plot, and a climax that is quite frankly, underwhelming.It’s watchable, but it could easily have been so much more.

I genuinely feel that we have great stories to narrate, but we mess up on screenplay writing, mutilating a brilliant story in the process. That's an issue with DUM MAARO DUM as well. A collage of brilliantly executed sequences cannot compensate for a riveting screenplay. That's precisely why DUM MAARO DUM lacks dum. The writing gets muddled in the post-interval portions, after one has savored some tremendous moments in the first hour. There are portions that put you off On the whole, DUM MAARO DUM is like fast food that's high on calories, but falls short in the nutrition department. All the characters are credible and immensely watchable. Further more, there is the stylization of the film and its dramatic narration that makes it a compelling watch. The film slags in places and needs tightening, but the lull is followed by a tangy twist in the tale, which makes up for the occasional yawn. Shridhar Raghavan writes a thrilling cops and robbers tale which has some quirky banter scripted by Purva Naresh. Add to this Goa captured in glowing colours by cinematographer Amit Roy and a peppy music score by Pritam, and director Rohan Sippy gives you a film that keeps the popcorn crackling, till the very end.Visit Site for More

The first few reels of this not too bad-not too great fare are rather snappy. Sippy loosely employs the Rashomon effect to establish Sridhar Raghavan's (initially) racy plot, exposing the murky face of Goa. And while DMD amasses all the superficial components to create a distinctly glamorous and masculine drama, it neglects to inject the screenplay with a vital dose of slyness or sensuality to truly justify the twin Dums in the title.The final twist is interesting but the makers' undecided, shabbily structured culmination of two hours of build-up punctures the possibility of a three star rating. It's pretty much how Abhishek tricks a bunch of small-timers into believing he's pumping deadly dope into their veins before a perverse admission, 'Chuna lagaya.'Visit Site for More

Dum Maaro Dum has all the ingredients of crackling entertainment: This is one film that should soar but sadly it never quite takes flight. The problem is the writing.Dum Maaro Dum has some punchy dialogue-baazi and snazzy action, especially a nicely done shoot-out at a night market.It also features Abhishek’s best performance in recent times. But the narrative slumps in places, the plot has loopholes and the characters just aren’t convincing enough to grab you.Dum Maro Dum could have been so much more. It wows you, only to meander for a while before finding its groove again, and the cycle is repeated. Entertaining without doubt, but you wish the inconsistencies didn’t come to spoil the party from time to time.But in what should have been a no-holds-barred thriller that gives you no space to breathe, sub-plots about lost loves, dead wives and dukhiyari maas make DMD an arduous watch.All in all, DMD leaves you occasionally on a high, but also a tad disappointed. With the body of a modern thriller and the soul of a 1970s masala film, the idea behind the hybridisation had potential, but DMD falls slightly short.Watch it nonetheless. Performances remain the highlight. Abhishek Bachchan has the cool cop number down pat and reiterates his Dhoom act with the same sluggish charm and earnestness. The unearthing of Barbosa's mystery isn't going to get anyone a standing ovation. But the finale isn't half-bad either. Dum Maaro Dum is worth a watch for the peek into the seamier side of Goa; but expecting anything other than Bollywood style thrills and chases will leave you disappointed.Visit Site for More

The taut first half is a perfect blend of style and substance. The intriguing characters and the plot manage to hold your attention. It's post the intermission that narrative drops slightly. The superfluous songs certainly don't help. Leaving the minor glitches aside, Rohan manages to create enough suspense with Michael Barbosa's character, which leads to a dexterous climax.
