Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review Top Critics

Ratings:2.5/5 Reviewer:Rajeev  Masand Site:CNN IBN (IBNLive)
To be fair, Ek Tha Tiger is a very different beast from recent Salman Khan starrers, particularly his last two releases, Ready and Bodyguard. The romantic portions in Ek Tha Tiger are warm and fuzzy, the humor thankfully clean and light-hearted, but as a thriller set in the world of espionage, it’s ironic that the people least intelligent here are the intelligence officers themselves. Ek Tha Tiger is far from unwatchable. It’s a welcome change from the harebrained films we’ve seen Salman Khan in lately, and for what it’s worth he’s playing a character and not himself for a change. The question you have to ask is – Is that enough?I’m going with two-and-a-half out of five for director Kabir Khan’s Ek Tha Tiger. At best, it’s a satisfying watch. Just don’t go in with high expectations.

Ratings:4.5/5 Ek Tha Tiger Review by:Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama
As a standalone film, EK THA TIGER is enthralling and most significantly, an entertaining motion picture. On the exterior, it is a compelling love story/thriller. But beneath the entertainment that it offers, it carries a message as well. Loud and clear. If the spectators can see through the coating, great. Even if they don't, they will yet go back in high spirits. On the whole, EK THA TIGER is a high-octane thriller that works big time. This one has style and substance, both, besides dazzling action, stunning international locales and stylish execution. Most importantly, it has Salman Khan, the trump card of this enterprise. There's no denying that Salman's charisma has resulted in a mind-blowing, astounding, never-seen-before start at the ticket window, but the film's content will sustain it thereafter. The film has long legs to prolong its splendid run. This is, without doubt, Salman's best. Sure shot Blockbuster!

Director Kabir Khan scales down the ambition as he aims for a safe mainstream middle-ground in his Ek Tha Tiger, a spy-thriller which takes a while to get boiling but eventually crackles along quite effectively. It could have been snappier, and the girl could have been much better, but the film should be applauded for giving us a non-sleepwalking Salman, and enough genuine bang for our buck. If only the flame rose higher, but ah well. Tiger tiger burning slight

Ek Tha Tiger poses no such worries. A smartly scripted, crisply edited and stylishly mounted love story cloaked in the garb of an espionage thriller, it makes enough sense for the most part to blow away the air of scepticism.Ek Tha Tiger isn’t what one whould rate as great cinema, but it isn’t just harmless fun. The pacifist message dovetailed into its core lends the film a far greater degree of relevance than Bollywood spy thrillers generally strive for.I am going with three and a half stars. Ek Tha Tiger has enough zing, visual and otherwise, to keep you in your seats for its runtime of a little over two hours.

Ek Tha Tiger is no Dabangg, Ready or Bodyguard. It's more evolved, less chalu( read entertaining.) Salman`isms' are rationed. And the hero does so many unbelievable stunts, it makes you ponder on whether- Bollywood's answer to Spider Man, Superman and Batman; is apna Sal`man.'

Ek Tha Tiger is Salman Khan’s best film since Dabangg. But because his last two films were Ready and Bodyguard, the bar is not exactly high. Director and co-writer Kabir Khan takes the larger-than-life Salman Khan persona and wraps it in an engaging story that services it. Of course it’s played out like a comic book but if you’re willing to suspend disbelief there’s fun to be had.In places, Ek Tha Tiger becomes downright silly. So the modus operandi might be to think of it as a fairy tale with spies and guns. And enjoy the ride

One of the most annoying dilemmas that the lead cast is constantly pondering over through the film is whether to follow the dil or the dimaag. Let's just say, if you've donated the first to Salman Khan, leave the second at home at head to the nearest multiplex. Else, stay put at home and suffer Independence Day specials on the telly.

Ek Tha Tiger is similar in some ways — it's a film that presents Salman as a larger-than-life, superhero-esque secret agent. There's action, music and a plot that is tailored to satiate Khan fans looking to get off on his antics. But, surprise surprise. Director Kabir Khan doesn't leave things to the Salman factor alone. He banks on it, no doubt, with his film exploiting the actor's persona to the hilt, but makes sure he makes it a spectacle of it. "I'll show you how to do it" - his film arrogantly seems to be telling filmmakers chasing multiple crore figures and box office records. There's style, there's slickness, and there's an ingredient almost entirely missing from most other Salman films - wit.

There are two conflicting factors in Ek Tha Tiger: Salman Khan’s overriding principle of silliness and Kabir Khan’s intrinstic liking for seriousness. But so overwhelming is Bhai’s past aura that serious keeps threatening to slide into silly, and the moment you give in to that in-between space, the film becomes something you can enjoy. Most of the time.Salman is much more in packaged-by-Yashraj-Bond mode, bashing ‘em up, and lovin’ her for ever: essentially Bhai doing his stuff, restricted, sure, tamped down, sure, but still Bhai doing his stuff.I had fun while it lasted.

Reviewing a Salman Khan film is like ironing a pair of jeans: really, what’s the point. People will watch it anyway. The sensible, sorted director’s ensured the film has a script. Though only Aditya Chopra  the credited story writer, could be behind a deeply romantic idea of two secret service agents of rival countries falling desperately in love.Neither of the lead characters plays traitor to their government. They’re merely in love. You know love will eventually win. And of course you knew Salman Khan will win. At the time of writing this review, it’s hard to estimate the film’s box-office receipts. Yet, never in my recent memory have I stood in a long line, all the way outside a mall, trying to get into a packed multiplex, with a ticket bought in advance, for a 9 am show!

Ek Tha Tiger Movie Review Other Critics

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Koimoi Site:Koimoi
What’s Good: The cinematography; some twists in the film; the music. What’s Bad: The plot seems stretched; unexplained loops.Loo Break: Not really.Watch or Not: Watch it for Salman Khan at the top of his game and some exciting action scenes.Aditya Chopra’s story smartly mixes a spy thriller with a love story which is sort of exciting. Kabir Khan and Neelesh Misra’s script has its share of flaws. The story of the scientist in the first half shows Tiger quite inept as a spy and isn’t even given a proper conclusion. Also, why RAW decides to help their rogue agent Tiger towards the end is up to the viewers to decide. The movie also seems a bit long with the duo on the run most of the time. Dialogues are good and keep a good dose of humourSalman fans won’t be disappointed by Ek Tha Tiger. For others, it’s a fun watch even though it’s a bit long.

Ek Tha Tiger has Salman Khan in almost every frame so far. He does better than 'Bodyguard' this time. One may not know about other things but Salman screen presence is unbeatable. .Ek Tha Tiger's second half has the right pace. Salman portrays different emotions. The storyteller has apparently tries to give a message through Ek Tha Tiger. Ek Tha Tiger represents 'masala' Bollywood and has many illogical scenes. Salman is director's answer to everything. Ekthatiger seems to be the celebration of Salman Khan's superstardom.Ek Tha Tiger is especially meant for the audiences who made 'Bodyguard' & 'Ready' hits.Salman's fans should not miss Ek Tha Tiger. Others can watch it for its exotic locations and daredevil stunts.Overall, Ek Tha Tiger gets 2 out of 5 for high production values and 'masala' entertainment

But over all, the film does disappoint you for it fails to deliver what it promised. If you are a Salman Khan fan, you would love it for sure and the movie might rake-in the moolah because of the superstar! It will certainly entertain you if you leave your brains outside the theatre!

The director, who has earlier directed Kabul Express (2006) and New York (2009) has a firm grip on the story and the screen play, without compromising on the entertainment value of the film at all. There’s everything and more in Ek Tha Tiger that you’d want to see in a film – good looking lead cast, story, glamour, an endearing romance, good performances, some laughs, picturesque locations, thrilling and exquisite action, patriotism and most importantly, a good time at the movies!

What works for the film big time apart from Salman Khan is the action. It's slick and woven well into the script. It pushes the story forward unlike the song which jerks it backwards (by many miles). Also, the fact that Salman is gung-ho about the action and romance in this film is a huge plus. Clearly, he is having the time of his life, doing what he loves to do best and in return getting appreciation from his fans.
