Vicky Donor Movie Review

A youth-centric movie with a humorous theme, VICKY DONOR is fundamentally a romantic comedy between a Punjabi boy and a Bengali girl set against the backdrop of sperm donation. Nonetheless, director Shoojit Sircar takes a light-hearted, optimistic look at the issue, coming up with a film that entertains and enlightens the viewer vis-Ã -vis infertility and artificial insemination. VICKY DONOR may be a diminutive film in terms of budget and costing, but when you see the issue it tackles, it does not give the impression of being an undersized film. On the whole, VICKY DONOR is a small film with a big heart. The makers have had the courage to bring a diverse issue out in the open, narrating a daringly different story without getting preachy. Witty, funny and also emotional, VICKY DONOR is forward-thinking, progressive commercial cinema which vastly enlightens and hugely entertains!Visit Site for more

Director Shoojit Sircar is back with a bold, first-of-its-kind concept that's taboo. He makes this sperm of an idea swim all the way. He intelligently uses comedy to break mindsets, without embarrassing moments or awkward lines. The film entertains, without preaching sexual moralities or social service. Even the music blends beautifully with the story. The winner here is the script (Juhi Chaturvedi), penned with subtlety, oodles of non-slapstick humour, while sensitizing the cause at hand. However, the lingo gets too Punju at times and the last twenty minutes could do with some editing. It takes a man to make a film like this, literally. Kudos to John Abraham for his brave maiden production. Thankfully, this sperm hits bullseye.Visit Site for more

Vicky Donor is one of those rare Hindi films that work purely on the strength of writing and performances. There are no crutches here of stars, sets, styling or foreign locations. But director Shoojit Sircar and writer Juhi Chaturvedi create a heart-felt, keenly observed comic-drama. Sadly, Vicky Donor derails in the second half - the climax is flat-out foolish - but until then, it's great fun.Check out Vicky Donor. It's a nice surprise.Visit Site for more

Whether it's to make a contribution to mankind with one's reproductive cells or marrying outside one's community, the running theme of Vicky Donor is acceptance, embracing things without making too much fuss, because that's what real people do. And because this is conveyed without the aid of an insistent monologue, cheap humour or calculated soppiness, it makes John Abraham's maiden production quite a pleasant viewing. Vicky Donor loses some of its sperm, er steam, in the second half when the sentimental, ethical reasoning creeps in, it feels a bit avoidable and protracted. Except by then you have begun to care too much for these characters and its unassuming vibe to create a ruckus.Visit Site for more

Sircar’s film, a morality tale wrapped up as a fun bon-bon, delivers enough sparkles to make us overlook the sagging bits. And that’s got to do with the perky writing, which leads to fresh characters who speak as they ought to, in flavourful, authentic settings. The repetitions, including the different ways you can define “spurrm”, get annoying. Some of the emotional parts get soggy, and the climax, ahem, is contrived. But Vicky Donor’s delights outweigh the not-so-good stuff: give me a Bollywood hero who pulls off a pedicure without prurience, and I will tell you, go see this film.Visit Site for more

Vicky Donor' is a laugh riot from start to end. It's amazing how the film effortlessly entertains you without resorting to slapstick. A sound script by Juhi Chaturvedi is the soul of the film. Shoojit Sircar proves himself as a director with 'Vicky Donor'. The film which starts with 'Sperm bhi koi donate karne ki chiz hai', ends with a positive message without too much of preaching.Overall, 'Vicky Donor' is a lighthearted fun film, which meets expectations. It definitely deserves a watchVisit Site for more

Vicky Donor makes every minute count. In between all this there’s a whole lot of fun for the audience, thanks to Juhi Chaturvedi’s impeccably funny screenplay, that includes witty yet conversational dialogues and typical 'dilli' mannerisms that are smartly woven to guarantee a paisa vasool entertainment. How can anything go wrong with such enlightening story-telling backed by perfect casting? Nothing does. Vicky Donor takes the closet issue, turns it on its head and spins a light-hearted tale around it, one that fertilises genuine fun at the movies.Visit Site for more

The story per say may not have healthy males rushing to donate sperm. But it does drive home a point. Shoojit Sircar takes you on a madcap ride with a solid dose of sanity thrown in. He does not just shoot in the dark, but has a blueprint in front of him as he begins VICKY DONOR. The mood, setting, establishing the reason to donate and the final salvo he fires at the climax work big time. VICKY DONOR is not your typical Bollywood film. It is different. Daringly different.Visit Site for more

With a brief emotional roller coaster ride, Vicky Donor deals with a sensitive issue of sperm donation, in quite a light-heart manner. The Punjabi tadka and Delhi culture adds sparkle to an interesting subject. It definitely not just targets youth, but also assures entertainment aesthetically. The first half tickles your funny bone, while the second seems to be dull in partsNo big star cast which will attract audiences to the theatre. However, natural and brilliant performances will surely speed up the word-of-mouth publicity process for the flick. It’s definitely a must watch if you genuinely crave for different, entertaining and paisa-vasool cinema.Visit Site for more
