Hate Story Movie Review

Hate story revolves around Kaavya [Paoli Dam] and her transformation from a simple middle class journalist to a sex worker to seek revenge. Kaavya, who doesn't have anything to lose anymore, uses her sexuality as a lethal weapon to rip Siddharth [Gulshan Devaiah] apart by using everyone connected to him one way or another.Movies with such an audacious theme generally ignite debates and HATE STORY is sure to meet with severe reactions. The makers ought to be prepared for some bouquets and brickbats. What makes the movie watchable is the vengeance aspectOn the whole, HATE STORY banks on the age-old vendetta theme, but what takes it beyond the mediocre mark is the cat and mouse game played by the protagonist and antagonist, besides, of course, the bold and provocative scenes that add spice to the proceedings. Though engaging in parts, there's no denying that the second hour seizes your attention, making it a watchable experience.Visit Site for more

Publicised purely on the strength of its 'erotic' content and scandalously adult themes, Hate Story delivers very little actual heat. What it does have is a girl willing to take her clothes off. With this as his cue, Agnihotri takes the classically misogynist approach to the vengeance film by first sadistically piling on increasingly brutal injustices onto his heroine before she finally snaps and comes back for irrationally but invariably titillating revenge: revenge best served by dishes dressed hot. With a film like this, there is only one requirement: grip. She can only be said to have earned her revenge if we, the viewers, either care about her character and root for her, or if things unfold interestingly enough to keep us watching. Hate Story doesn't do either of these, and instead moans a lot.Visit Site for more

The film instead blows the top right off the dirty deals, the, well, intercourse between different power spheres ruling India's capital. Interestingly, Hate Story isn't just one woman hating one man - it's also a tale of hateful deals, corruption, brutality and sleaze tiling the farmhouses fringing the capital, glistening in hotel bars, twinkling wickedly off the sunlight on the NCR's corporate buildings. It would all be so interesting - if only deeper and tighter. Instead, we get little sense of the porcelain-faced Kavya's torment, sliding from reporter to prostitute. We get even less sense of backup-BF Vicky's feelings - while we get way too much of Delhi's street-shots, wasted lines, lip-gloss thick as a moustache, bathrobes, jacuzzis and cars, all burdening Hate Story by about 30 minutes too many.Visit Site for more

So what we get is an oomphy, oozy femme who is uninhibitedly fatale, and capable of steaming things up, but stuck in a story which starts off as credible but all too soon plunges us into a pit of disbelief. And treatment which drags it out too long, minus slickness. We are not going near the plotholes because that would be a long list. Suffice it to say that they are so glaring in places, that you miss out on some not-so-bad parts of this film, chief of which are a few strong scenes by the main performers.Visit Site for more

Though the film has ample shots of lovemaking but barely measures up to the hype it created. The erotic moments in the film are destroyed by poor acting, comically outdated lines and heavy breathing. But that apart, the basic surmise of Hate Story, the fuel that keeps the plot going, is hatred and vengeance. What mars Hate Story is the collective poor acting of its cast.Hate Story works partly because of its bold heroine and partly because it really is an interesting thriller that keeps you hooked till the clumsy end. But it could have been so much more had the script been more cohesive.Visit Site for more

If in The Dirty Picture, Vidya Balan wore her sexuality on her sleeve, in Hate Story, Paoli uses her sexuality like a favoured currency in the stock market. Hate Story pushes the envelope so hard, all the contents spill out in a torrential tumble of tantalising power-play set within the world of corporate battles and gender conflicts. This is a most riveting and aesthetic saga of a woman's revenge against the man who's wronged her since RK Nayyar's Inteqaam - except for the fact that Paoli does things Sadhana in Nayyar's film could have never imagined.Visit Site for more

A revenge drama, with generous dollops of erotica, predictable and unconvincing twists, Hate Story is journalist-turned-prostitute Kavya Krishna’s story of hatred towards exploitative, rich Delhi businessman Siddarth ‘Sid’ Dhanrajgir. If you walk into Hate Story in the hope of catching clothes shedding, bodies rubbing, silhouettes forming, sweat dripping, you won’t be disappointed. Overall, Hate Story remains a painfully long and worthless thriller. You’d love to hate Hate Story. Unless the voyeur in you insists, stay away from the theatres.Visit Site for more

There is no novelty in the story. It is the usual vendetta saga. While the premise for revenge is promising, the method is a little baffling. Why would Kaavya want the services of the most expensive 'call girl' to understand the art of faking? Or, why would she want to be a prostitute to get at Siddharth. Vivek Agnihotri gets off the track here by trying to infuse some oomph. But he has done enough of that in the seduction scene between Siddharth and Kaavya! In short, Kaavya need not have indulged in prostitution to get even. That is a big letdown.HATE STORY is neither spectacular, nor boring. It falls somewhere in between.Visit Site for more

The initial part of the film is gripping and forces one to expect thrill, but soon it turns into a failed expectation. Predictable storyline and loosely weaved thrill will undoubtedly act as a hindrance for Hate Story. However, spiced up thrilling experience in patches, might be a reason to push yourself towards ticket window. Our final word- Stay away from Hate Story and look around for the donor, who might grace you with few funny moments, if not steamy scenes.Visit Site for more
