Mujhse Fraandship Karoge Movie Review

Ratings:3/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site:IBNLive
The plot isn't particularly original or inventive, but the film moves briskly, and has a consistent tone. It's centered on a bunch of silly twenty something-year-olds, and the good thing is they behave and talk like silly twenty something-year-olds.The film works because it gets what it's like to be young and carefree, and because the director doesn't manipulate us with unnecessary emotional BS.I'm going with three out of five for director Nupur Asthana's Mujhse Fraaandhship Karoge. Like the demographic it represents, the film makes for good company, and isn't meant to be taken too seriously. An enjoyable one-time watch.

Director Nupur Asthana, who has several cult shows to her credit, helms this youth film with dexterity. What keeps the momentum going, despite the fact that it tends to get predictable at times, is the dialogue and the chemistry of its central characters. In fact, one of the most refreshing things about MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE is the lingo that the youngsters speak. The dialogue are sharp and smart, something that you expect from a youth movie.Unlike most love stories that get melodramatic and sentimental after a point, this one does the balancing act well.First and foremost, it's set against the backdrop of a social networking site [Facebook], which makes it very contemporary, a film of today. On the whole, MUJHSE FRAAANDSHIP KAROGE is engaging, funny, brimming with style and wit. It's for the youth and the young at heart. Go for it!

Before the friendship request sent between the two college goers turns into love forever, it takes a lot of dynamics -- teasing, taunting, I-can't stand-you-moments, I-actually-miss-you syndromes... till the buddies actually admit being in love. Of course, after revealing their true identities beyond the virtual world. And that's exactly when the friendship turns into fraaandship... and goes all kitsch. The newcomers do invest an upbeat energy in their roles, specially Saqib Saleem and Saba Azad. Tip Off: A babalog film, brimming over with youth iconography

What’s Good: The fast-paced screenplay, the lovely and confident performances of the actors, the songs, the dialogues. What’s Bad: The pre-climax and the climax are a bit hurried, but not bad. The first half moves at a fast pace and the quarrels and squabbles of Vishal and Preity are entertaining. The pace drops a bit in the second half. Likewise, the climax looks a bit hurried. Nevertheless, the drama is entertaining and enjoyable – and, more importantly, very contemporary.

This could be a classic case of the rebound : the first film, `Luv Ka The End’, that came out of the Yashraj Films sub-banner that’s helming all these shiny new flicks on youth was so awful that I went into this one with a great deal of reluctance. But I am pleased to report that despite its irritants, and a few loose ends, `Mujshe Fraandship Karoge’ has well done on-the-surface flash, which comes off nicely because it doesn’t pretend to be anything else.

The story is refreshingly simple, yet predictable. The treatment given to a young at heart movie is extremely youthful. Also, what adds to the charm is the body language and lingo which makes this flick an obvious present-day representation of youth. However, a bit dragged and evident second half acts as a hindrance to the climax. An entertaining presentation of the youth, with the right amount of romance, comedy and emotions attached to it, make Mujhse Fraandship Karoge  a good flick. Four new entrants hold your complete attention with their true to life performances. The film gets restricted to a certain age group, which will definitely bring a mixed response to the movie.
