Yeh Khula Aasmaan Movie Review

Ratings:2.5/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama
YEH KHULA AASMAAN revolves around Avinash [Raj Tandon], a youngster going through an extremely challenging phase of life due to his academic failures. He feels an immense vacuum which, unfortunately, his busy parents are unable to fill. In desperation, he visits his grandfather [Raghuveer Yadav] after several years. The grandfather uses the 'kite' to subtly impart the lessons of life and prepares Avinash to face life. Under his company, Avinash discovers many unexplored yet invaluable facets of life. YEH KHULA AASMAAN mirrors the pressures the youth faces today [peer, parental and academic pressures].On the whole, YEH KHULA AASMAAN isn't perfect, but likeable nonetheless. A simple story that strikes a chord!

director Gitanjali Sinha believes in telling her story at a torturous pace. Yeh Khula Aasmaan was touted as a sports film which it isn't. The most appropriate description which comes to mind is contrived melodrama that has random plot points strung together. If the characters seem trite and clichéd, you need to hold on for a second till you catch a glimpse of the 'moral values' crammed into the 100-odd minutes (the duration of the film). The film gets preachy at this point. There is only one reason to see this film. It will definitely be a long long time before you tell somebody, "Oh, go fly a kite"

The execution is amateurish and shoddy. The plot takes the entire first-half to establish itself and the film completely drags on through the second half. The film is packed with so many quotes that are meant to inspire you to crush competition that the theater feels like a school principal’s office. The film tightens up in the last 10 minutes as the finals of kite competition start off. Is the rest of the film worth these ten minutes of mildly exciting sequence? I don’t think so.

‘Yeh Khula Aasmaan’ is an old-fashioned simple and transparent tale told with a straightforwardness that challenges current filmmaking trends of irrelevant complexities.Yeh Khula Aasmaan’ is a well-intended heartwarming film. More mellow than melodrama, it revels in postures of pristine idyllism associated with non-metropolitan life. There are no heart-stopping moments of high and low. The drama, when it ensues, is brought on with disarming simplicity. That the heart is in the right place is undeniable.

YEH KHULA AASMAN is a wonderful product of a sensitive story, simple direction and melodious music which forms an intrinsic part of the narrative. In fact, it is the soul of the movie. It's a pleasant experience which takes you back to the melodious times of the 70s and early eighties when music merged seamlessly with the narration and screenplay. YEH KHULA AASMAN is an everyday story, powerfully told using the kite as a metaphor. The whole kite flying competition may not exactly be an engrossing affair, but nonetheless, this is an honest attempt to get us back to our roots and values. A reality check for parents and teenagers...

It's a predictable, yet engaging story of a youngster. The treatment is extremely subtle and emotional. The second half holds attention and kite has been extremely impactful as a metaphor. The high voltage drama with bit of romance induced in a teenager’s life is impressive. Few dull moments act as hindrance for this appealing story.Raghubir Yadav’s seamless performance as lovable Dadu can make you sit through the movie. Lack of big stars and the fact that it's different from the regular masala films, might act as a setback for the film. If you want a high emotional dose this weekend, then we suggest you catch Yeh Khula Aasmaan.
