I M 24 Movie Review

Ratings:2/5 Reviewer: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama
I M 24, directed by Saurabh Shukla, unravels relationships that hinge on lies. In addition, Shukla attempts to narrate two stories concurrently -- of a middle-aged writer and his pal and also of two aspiring actors who are struggling to find a foothold in the glam world. Shukla introduces his characters with dexterity and the two plots co-exist seamlessly till a point. But it becomes a laborious experience as the two stories head towards their respective conclusions. On the whole, I M 24 appeals in parts, not in totality!

With a bit of truth, a bit of lies, part spoof, part-real, Saurabh Shukla spins this romcom with witty one-liners, few hilarious scenes, good comic timing, a lot energy (sometimes excessive). But the second half loses spirit, with stretched scenes, repetitive humour and sums-up with an anti-climax. Infact, we even wonder why the movie is called 'I M 24', really. This '24-something' keeps floundering in the pre-teen sense- of-humour space, never really coming of age.

Brace yourselves, the Bheja Fry gang returns. It's the same clique returning with two country bumpkins instead of one. You've been warned at the onset, there's a déjà vu feeling which creeps in the first scene itself. The punch lines, yes there are one or two really funny one-liners but they are too few to make an impact. It is the spirited performance by two seasoned and mature actors (Rajat Kapoor and Ranvir Shourie) which stops the film from fading into oblivion. This film is strictly for Rajat Kapoor or Ranvir Shourie fans. Or you might just love it if you got dumped unceremoniously for losing your hair at twenty. The rest would be better off giving it a miss.

When it comes to Saurabh Shukla, all you expect is a light-hearted story with a few chuckles thrown in here and there. That's precisely what I M 24 is. Well, at least for the first half of the film. Although the story progresses at a good pace, the climax kills the feel-good factor with an illogical stretched conclusion. Not the best entertainment money can buy, I M 24 is not completely unworthy of your time.
