Akaash Vani Movie Review
Ratings:1.5/5 Review By: Rajeev Masand Site: CNN IBN (IBNLive)Like his earlier movie Pyaar Ka Punchnama, director Luv Ranjan’s Akaash Vani is a promising but ultimately inconsistent film that starts out at one place, but ends up at quite another. This long, rambling love story makes an important point about marriage, and about parents shoving their decisions down their children’s throats to stay within societal norms. It even touches fleetingly upon the issue of marital rape. But it’s a pity these thoughts get somewhere lost in this convoluted mess of a film.I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for director Luv Ranjan’s Akaash Vani. It’s a good cure for insomnia. Queue up for a ticket, those of you having trouble sleeping.Visit Site for more

Like PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, AKAASHVANI also has a bond with realism. It's about the present times. It communicates the contemporary lingo. Yet, it has the old world charisma that still makes you go weak in your knees. It has shades of everything, from fidelity and commitment to resentment and mistrust to anguish and betrayal. Handled most efficiently, with several authoritative moments, AKAASHVANI is, without doubt, a delicate love story that triumphs. With PYAAR KA PUNCHNAMA, Luv Ranjan demonstrated he's a commendable storyteller. With AKAASHVANI, he only seals it furthermore! On the whole, AKAASHVANI appeals for the characters that Luv Ranjan has created as well as the buoyancy and gusto with which the principal actors bring alive the characters on screen. The movie contains just the right blend of sparkle and spice and is definitely worthy of a watch. Go for it!Visit Site for more

Given the situation of women in the country, the film rightly touches upon topics like psychological, sexual harassment post marriage. The characters, issues are realistic and sensible; except for the multiple irrelevant songs and scenes that drag the movie endlessly. Length is a major flaw. Akaash Vani makes women realize that it's more important to be happy and respected than being considered as righteous. It works strongly as social drama than a love story.Visit Site for more

Though there are patches of aridity in the relationship (what was Akaash doing while Vani was suffering in malfunctional domesticity?), this is a very good film about a bad marriage, or what havoc a wrong decision about one's life can create. Suffused in contemplative silences and deriving its dramatic energy from the age-old debate on arranged versus love marriages, Akaash Vani is thoughtful and absorbing, not prone to tripping over with nervous anxiety and excessive energy to hold our attention.Visit Site for more

The film stands out in its make-believe moments. It makes you want to fall in love yet again, without really making a great impact on the mind – blame the tried and tested climax for that. But watch it for Nushrat and Kartik. The duo deserves an extra star for their performance. Three out of five from me for ‘Akaash Vani’.Visit Site for more

This is what makes Akaash Vani engrossing. There are countless young couples in love not knowing how to break the news to their parents and there are countless parents who think only they know which boy is best for their daughter. Both are right in their own thinking. A father always wants his daughter to be comfortable. A daughter on the other hand, at most times, is already in love when proposal day comes. And that is what puts most in a Catch-22 situation. The music is young and peppy, the cinematography of the hill stations breathtaking. If you are willing to pardon the initial hiccups, AV is enjoyable. Do tune in to Akaash Vani.Visit Site for more

What’s Good: The fuzzy and the feel good romance is bound to soothe your soul. What’s Bad: A rather clichéd and already seen story which drags long enough to test your patience. Loo break: Immediately post-interval. You almost wish the interval hadn’t ended. And if you are a free spirited woman, I strongly recommend you to carry an analgesic. Watch or Not?: If Sleepless in Seattle is the kind of film that wrenches your heart, Akash Vani is worth a shot!Visit Site for more

Akaash Vani is not so much about romance as it is about understanding what drives decisions that people make. The film could have done with a more crisp narrative. At a near two-and-half hour runtime, you wish the tale was cut short by at least an hour. What works for the film, though, is the cast.Visit Site for more
