Tezz Movie Review
Ratings:1.5/5 Reviewer:Rajeev Masand Site: CNN IBN
The extent of his involvement on Tezz for one, hardly qualifies as anything more than mere ‘filming’, given that it’s an unapologetic rip-off of the popular Japanese film, The Bullet Train. From leather jackets and trench coats to dark glasses and monkey caps…if only half the budget spent on the trendy wardrobe of the actors in this film had been utilized to hammer out a more sensible script, perhaps Tezz might have been a less stupid film. Tezz has many of the ingredients for an engaging, fast-paced thriller. What it needed was a director to assemble its parts and make them work. Alas, Priyadarshan is content with merely filming.I’m going with one-and-a-half out of five for Tezz…awfully boring for a film that promises speed and thrills.Visit Site for more

Riveting action movies are a rarity in Bollywood. Action movies that stand out come along once every few years. TEZZ, helmed by Priyadarshan, is one of them. The story of TEZZ is uncomplicated.TEZZ is a good looking thriller filmed with expertise. Loaded with an ingenious premise, thrilling moments and action, Priyadarshan has curved it into a tremendously well-executed motion picture. The film's sole objective is to keep moving at a feverish pace, keeping the spectator completely immersed and entertained with the on-screen occurrences. Sure, there are some unwarranted moments , but the pacing is so breakneck and the cinematography so superior that it's easy to overlook the few unreasonable moments. On the whole, TEZZ is a taut, entertaining action spectacle. Those with an appetite for well-made thrillers should lap it up!Visit Site for more

In truth, the film is full of Hollywood-style car chases amidst a long-running game of cat and mouse between Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn. Tezz is fast and lives up to its title, but it is also its title that gives away its source -- Jan de Bont's 1994 thriller Speed. That was an excellent film and though Tezz may not be as good as that, it doesn't make too many demands on your time. And that's not such a bad thing at all.Visit Site for more

Despite slick action and stunning scenes - bullets ramming underwater into a sunlit stream, a violet flower-bush before a cop-car - Tezz loses speed often. Here's possibly why - director Priyadarshan's oeuvre is putting characters in desperate situations and watching them respond. It works beautifully in comedies - but Tezz needs relentless pushing, not frequent stops pondering over the unfairness of citizenship. You can't run fast carrying heavy baggage - that's why Tezz huffs and puffs a little too much.Visit Site for more

Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgn may be sharp but with a blunt script and a blot for a plot, their performances couldn’t save this highly explosive turkey from detonating. For a film that struggles and strives to look like a western product, its VFX is embarrassingly poor. When a film spends 40 crores to establish extremely high production values, it needs to be backed with a script that deserves it. The cinematography isn’t particularly ingenious and the background score by Sandeep Chowta does little to lift the mood.Visit Site for more

Without doubt, some of the chase sequences are gripping and well-executed but the sense of déjà vu always lingers. Only this time Bollywood faces are in the middle of the action. Kapoor and Devgn are very good. Even the filmmakers thought Khan was so useless; they gave the good stunts to Reddy, who is equally dazed because she has a brother who’s on his way to going blind. Really now? As ex-employees why they agree to be part of Devgn’s plan is another discussion altogether. Then there’s South star Mohanlal, too, sadly reduced to a portly police officer waylaid on the ill-fated train. Kangana Ranaut has more of a cameo (thank heavens for small mercies). Sabu Cyril’s production design gives Tezz a slick look, but the script falters so much the pace stops mattering.May be Priyadarshan should stick to mindless comedies, so we can be sure we’re in safe territory. You won’t be missing much if you skipped Tezz.Visit Site for more

Upon watching ‘Tezz’, a dull and derivative film which is a mash-up of ‘Speed’ and a few assorted thrillers based on speeding objects meeting unmovable body parts,Kapoor is the cop who is put in charge of finding the bomber, and the bomb. He also tackles racist colleagues, and angry wives, and plays second fiddle to the main act. A fellow cop asks him : who do you think you are, Dirty Harry?Dream on.Visit Site for more

What’s Good: Ajay Devgan and Anil Kapoor’s performances; a few action sequences. What’s Bad: The ineffective drama in the first half; the lack of emotional connect between the characters in the film; the below-average visual effects.Verdict: Tezz is an average entertainer at best.Loo break: A couple, especially in the climax.Watch or Not?: Watch if you want to see an Indian copy of many Hollywood train-bombing films.Visit Site for more

From the trailers, it was pretty easy to guess that the film would be an action-packed adrenaline-punched one, and it has not let viewers down even a bit. An amalgam of thrilling moments and feverish pace, ‘Tezz’ doesn’t disappoint the average action-loving moviegoer.Deficiencies apart, the chase sequences in the film are brilliantly shot, and the cinematographer deserves a round of standing ovation. The abundance of thrilling moments keeps the viewer taut all through the film. Watch ‘Tezz’ for action, energy, and adrenaline!Visit Site for more

Though lacking in novelty in terms of storyline, Tezz is filled with powerful moments. In fact, it leaves one spell-bound with some breathtaking scenes like how Boman Irani saves the head-on collision between the high-speed bomb stricken train and another coming from the opposite side. Also, Sameera Reddy’s dare-devil stunts keep ones at the edge of the seat. There is however, a flip side too as the screenplay looses threads post interval with some very unrealistic moments.Fascinating first half, power-packed performances, classy cinematography and VFX, hard-hitting dialogues, direction are strong points. Weak storyline, music, editing are the drawbacks.Overall, Tezz deserves a one-time watch as it doesn’t disappoint.Visit Site for more
