Rivaaz Movie Review

Ratings:1/5 Reviewer:Taran Adarsh Site:BollywoodHungama
Frankly, neither are the on-screen characters developed, nor is there a cohesive screenplay in place in this amateurish attempt. Right from the writing to the execution of the material, RIVAAZ comes across as a half-baked attempt. Right intentions don't translate into a captivating film, right?RIVAAZ tells the story of families indulging in prostitution. Director Ashok Kumar Nanda had a solid idea on hand, but he lets go of the opportunity with a shoddy script that leaves a lot of questions unanswered. In fact, the narrative is so haphazard and childish that it leaves you sad that the writer and director let go of a great opportunity. On the whole, RIVAAZ is a poor fare.

It's a story that had great potential like the films on honour killings and all such moribund traditions. Girls being sold off for the upkeep of the men of the village isn't quite strange in a country where gender parity is a far from realised dream. But the amateur style of the film robs it of most of its appeal. A good idea that falls flat due to poor execution, Rivaaz is routine stuff.

If you are curious to hear the story of Rivaaz, don't be. There are ridiculously hilarious dialogues, disturbing yet funny characters, and embarrassing sequences in the film.Nothing makes much sense. The unintended humour makes a mockery of the social issue it set out to tackle by way of this film. A badly made comic caper is excusable, but a sombre social drama so preposterous is simply unacceptable. this is not a film. At least not a serious one. Not a satire either. Not even a stage-show. I'm not sure what it really is. Prostitution, even when it's the subject of a joke, doesn't make me laugh. And here, I guffawed.

The basic plot is a tradition (Rivaaz) that forces women in a particular village to fall into prostitution and she is pimped by none other than her own father and brothers.Couple of weeks back, ‘Khap’ released that too was based on age-old Indian traditions. These films have good subjects to play with but totally disappoint with poor scripting, direction and performances. Direction, script, music, everything is poor. There is nothing that can be called as the saving grace of the film. The four songs added cause headache and nothing else.
