It’s the delicious tongue-in-cheek humor, the exotic Mexican culture, lilting songs, and heartfelt emotion that powers the film along its journey.Pixar scores on these fronts, and frankly, because director Lee Unkrich imaginatively seasons this narrative about family with the bittersweet flavors of death. It’s a bold theme for a film that will be widely consumed by children, but it’s inoffensive, accessible stuff.I’m going with three-and-a-half out of five for Coco; the film’s beautiful ideas of death and beyond will linger with you, long after you’ve left the cinema.

Coco' is colorful and vibrant, blending a number of unique personalities and vivid landscapes. Director Lee Unkrich keeps the narrative taut; throwing in a couple of twists along with some truly powerful moments that will invariably pull at your heartstrings. 'Coco' shows us what Disney-Pixar does best, and reminds us that it still hasn't lost its touch. Take your kids along for it, and if you don't have any, don't hesitate to go alone!

Jason Katz and Matthew Aldrich have been credited, along with Unkrich and Molina, for writing the story. But even four writers couldn't stop the narrative from dragging in the middle. It's a story about music, but the songs themselves will not be able to leave a mark. It's a fun family entertainer not worth missing.

On the whole, COCO is a beautiful coming of age film that tells the story of a young boy’s life in a small Mexican town, who follows his heart while coming to understand what family really means, the choices we make and the paths not taken. A well rounded Pixar offering that might just be its best till date, COCO is a well-crafted must watch for the young and old. At the Indian box office, the film will have to depend on word of mouth to grow.
