It’s an interesting premise but the script lacks urgency and the makers fail to build enough tension. As the story unravels, the chinks in the writing become apparent, and multiple coincidences pile up. Sidharth is sincere and conveys vulnerability when he’s pleading innocence or embracing defeat. Sonakshi, however, is strictly one-note, and makes it hard for you to care for Maya because the writers give her so little to work with, and because she invests so little in her.

The second half loses some of this steam. The peripheral plot points don’t fit organically and the climactic twist is too far-fetched. The best thrillers are those that can stand up to scrutiny. In these films, when you go back, post-reveal, and question what you saw, the premise still holds. Ittefaq doesn’t manage that. But it has enough verve and smarts to keep you hooked.

Abhay Chopra retains the theme of the original and infuses his own twists and turns to the story. While his efforts are sincere and understated, there's a lot that gets lost in translation. Overall, Ittefaq is not a taut thriller that you expect it to be. But if patience is your asset, this unhurried suspense drama can be watched for Akshaye Khanna's crackling screen presence, acting prowess and sublime charm. Why he doesn't do films more often is the bigger mystery here.

ITTEFAQ starts on a thrilling note and the initial set up of the premise is intriguing. However, the film starts getting disappointing as it progresses further. The pace of the film is very slow.On the whole, ITTEFAQ is a weak show and doesn't get the grammar of whodunit right. The film is devoid of entertainment value as well as the shock element. At the box office, it will fail to make a mark.

There are two murders, there are two suspects, and there is one scowling police detective trying to unravel things on a very rushed timeline. Yet, for the sake of some non-linear flipfloppery, we have interrogations stretched over several days, as if the cop is only allowed to ask them one flashback's worth of questions at a go. Despite the relatively brisk running time and a double murder at its heart, the case runs cold and Abhay Chopra's film emerges unforgivably dull. The young man next to me in the theatre vanished after the intermission while I sighed enviously at the screen. 'Who cares who dun it' really doesn't have the same ring to it.

It’s not that plot is absolutely water-tight, or you will be totally blown away by the twists, but Abhay Chopra has put his resources to a good use. Ittefaq tries its best to create intrigue and doesn’t give the audience much time to think over the events twice. That’s its biggest achievement. Ittefaq is a decent enough crime-story to keep you hooked and guessing.

Ittefaq is gripping and promises a thrilling ride in a tight narrative and needs to be watched for its smooth execution. Also Akshaye Khanna’s cop act is perhaps one of the smoothest performances of 2017! Ittefaq does have a believable climax, but it feels like a last minute resort to give the film the expected twist and turn. With a premise like this, the end could have had an edgier wrap up. While the real action and pace picks up post interval, the first half is tedious and slow

A good murder mystery leads you by the hand but doesn’t advertise its wares, takes care to keep it taut, and delivers a satisfactory payoff. And despite a few niggles, Ittefaq (which takes broad pointers from the 1969 original of the same name) manages to pull it off. Ittefaq is that rare Bollywood creature: a smart, gripping whodunit which keeps us guessing.

Ittefaq is about two murders, one suicide, two versions of one story and a cop who tries to read whatever it is being offered to him. It starts with a chase sequence and ends with one but between these two, a lot of unpredictable things occur.Want to live 100 minutes of suspense? Go for it before the spoilsports come in to ruin everyone’s experience. By the interval, you’ll feel you know what’s going on, but sit back and see yourself getting proved wrong.Let’s start with what’s best – Akshaye Khanna! Chilling moments, hilarious breaks & scatterbrained climax.Three and a half stars!
