Chargesheet Movie Review

CHARGESHEET has an apology of a script. It has skimpily dressed women dancing on forgettable tunes. The music, once the hallmark of Navketan movies, is of fast-forward variety this time. That's not all! Known for discovering some of the finest talent over the years, the veteran's new discoveries in CHARGESHEET are all duds. The only thing I took back home was the indomitable spirit of Dev Anand. How many people live their dreams at 88? Here's an actor/film-maker committed to making movies on his terms. Irrespective of how CHARGESHEET fares or received by the movie-going audience, I am sure Dev sahab would've already cracked the idea of his next film. I salute that!

However, after few minutes one starts wondering why Warner Brothers could have produced such a pathetic film. The dialogue writer has done such a smart work that one gets confused between crying and laughing. Over all, it's just the respect for Dev Anand that people will go to cinema hall, otherwise after 'Chargesheet', one would not dare to watch any other film.

Irrelevant The first mistake to make if you do actually walk into this screening is to assume this is a picture. Just a picture? That’s like saying Dev Anand is an actor. He, like his movies, especially since the ‘90s, have been phenomena of our troubled times.A regular film at a multiplex: Rs 250. A post-90s Dev Anand phenomenon: Priceless.

Either this film was scripted in the 1980s or Dev Anand has opted to set his story in an ethos he's comfortable with. So Chargesheet is all about the ubiquitous underworld which has infiltrated the police force and the ministry and the film industry. The omnipresent bhais. And the supari given to bump off any person likely to become an obstruction. It's Dev Anand's show from the first reel to the last. And every time he pulls out his hip-flask saying "Ramu, zara meri brandy laana" the audience is amused.

The treatment has old world sensibilities. The plot, though not predictable, is neither gripping nor is the music hummable. But unlike some of the movies made today, Chargesheet story and screenplay are good. With some literally titillating scenes liberally thrown in, this movie would definitely appeal to the mass front benchers
