Jo Dooba So Paar Movie Review

“There’s nothing more dangerous than a Bihari in love,” says the concerned uncle of an NRI girl in Jo Dooba So Paar: It’s Love in Bihar. This odd film from director Praveen Kumar gives off a sense of incompletion, as it never quite comes together as anything coherent. I’m going with a generous one out of five for Jo Dooba So Paar: It’s Love in Bihar You keep waiting for something out of the ordinary to happen…anything really. But nothing does. It’s as boring as watching paint dry.

While the director has an interesting plot on hand, it's the screenplay that lets him down. The end result is that JO DOOBA SO PAAR is heart-felt and intermittently enjoyable, but not delightful in totality. First things first! First-time director Praveen Kumar needs to be lauded for choosing an attention-grabbing story. His intent is earnest, but the screenplay, soon after the American girl is kidnapped, gets formulaic. On the whole, JO DOOBA SO PAAR is a strictly okay fare, with some endearing moments and some not-too-charming ones.

There is a refreshing honesty in this film which makes it a small time sparkler.Almost all the other characters are flesh and blood forms and strike a genuine note from the word go. The film holds up a charming mirror on the small town milieu and creates heroes out of ordinary folks. Surely, a different experience. Tip Off: This one's not routine cinema, nor does it have mass appeal. But the niche audience will enjoy the integrity of tone and character.

Vinay is the only bright spot in this otherwise, bold move to portray a very different love story. What the director ventured to attempt and what eventually turned out were two opposites. It has more of a theatre feel than a 70mm effect. What can be said in favour of the film is that the characters have been etched out well keeping the local flavor and lingo in mind. JO DOOBA SO PAAR... IT'S LOVE IN BIHAR had the potential of going the BHEJA FRY way!

This Praveen Kumar film set in the notorious titular state of India disappoints on all counts. From the skeleton of a story to talented actors trapped in the shortcomings of an inefficient screenplay, it’s clearly a doobti naiyya (sinking boat). All in all, Jo Dooba So Paar is nothing you should waste your money on. This love in Bihar is bland and boring.
