Sometimes, interesting ideas go haywire due to amateurish and inept writing. NAKSHATRA is a glaring example of this statement. The film may've sounded like a perfect thriller on paper, but what unfolds on screen leaves you cold.Carelessly scripted NAKSHATRA suffers because the writer takes the viewer for granted. Besides, if you're attempting a suspense thriller - which NAKSHATRA is - the identity of the culprit should catch you by complete surprise, when the mask is taken off. But the villain's identity can be guessed midway through the film, which only goes to prove how fragile the written material is. On the whole, NAKSHATRA has no chances whatsoever.

There's a bit of romance juggled with a bit of action here to create a run-of-the-mill thriller which takes so much time to rev up, it leaves you restless. Flummoxed? Yes. So are we. The film perks up only in the action cuts when Milind Soman leaps and bounds across the screen in hot pursuit of the necklace chor. But that's not enough to keep up the momentum in a film that's in desperate need of editing and punch. Also, what's Anupam Kher doing in a two-bit role that doesn't justify his presence in any way.

Mohan Savalkar’s story and Marmbandha’s screenplay are kiddish, to say the least. All in all, Mohan Savalkar and Marmbandha’s script is silly, childish and written without proper application of mind. Perhaps, the only nice part is the chase sequence towards the end.Mohan Savalkar’s direction is as dull as the script. The film looks like a novice’s job. Bapi-Tutul’s music is functional. On the whole, Nakshatra hardly thrills or chills. A non-starter, it will go largely unnoticed.
