Dil Bole Hadippa, produced by Bollywood's ‘I-Proud-To-Be-A-Punjabi’ film studio, Yash Raj Films, is an unimaginative and thoroughly boring comedy.The plot of first-time director Anurag Singh's Dil Bole Hadippa is full of holes. Its formulaic screenplay is packed with clichés and stereotypes that you've seen dozens of times before in films produced by the same banner. The never-ending references to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, the patriotic clap-traps, and those overused Punjabi lines – very little is original here. it's a crushing bore of a film that's neither thrilling in its cricket scenes, nor entertaining in its humour. What's it going to take to expect some originality and inventiveness from one of the biggest players in Bollywood?To be honest, dil bole sudharjaa!

DIL BOLE HADIPPA tries to capture the spirit of the game and the aspirations of a sportsperson, who's keen to play for her pind. On paper, the concept, which bears an uncanny resemblance to SHE'S THE MAN, sounds interesting, but the problem is its writing, which is tame and mediocre.But there's a flipside too. The romantic moments between Rani and Shahid Kapoor lack fizz. Even the assorted characters in the film, like Sherlyn Chopra, Vrajesh Hirjee and Rakhi Sawant, contribute nothing to the film. They're mere props.Final word? You expect DIL BOLE HADIPPA to score a century, like several films churned out by Yash Raj. But it settles down in the half-century range. Strictly average!

DBH's heart, especially in matters of gender, is certainly in the right place. But the movie never really manages to entice the viewer into the make-believe world it creates: a world filled with green fields, red tractors, multi-coloured trucks and hyper-energetic Punjabi village folk. Director Anurag Singh neither manages to create an appealing romantic social nor a sincere sporty movie.The movie fails to build any sort of dramatic tension that Lagaan built in the climax.There's a limit to willing suspension of disbelief. Worse, the unappetising songs interrupt the narrative's flow.

There's indulgence and there's overkill. But when it stretches beyond that, it's simply an excessive fest of clichés. In that sense alone, Dil Bole Hadippa , though not necessarily a bad film, suffers from too many déjà vu-evoking distractions to wholly work.Truth be told, Dil Bole Hadippa only works as long as Veer takes centre stage. Rani, as the animated, over-confident Sardar boy and die-hard cricket buff is instantly endearing and amusing. If you can discount some of the Veer-Zaara inspired cheesiness to follow along with terrible exercises of humour and a reaa-llll-yy long climax, your 'Dil' might just find enough strength to mutter 'Hadippa'. Ha, like that's ever going to happen!

Most of Dil Bole Hadippa relies on the confidence of the lead pair. Their charming enthusiasm and ability to infuse energy into the erratic screenplay is the movie's biggest trump card.Yet despite its flawed screenplay and cheesy treatment, there is an underlying goodness and innocence to the film. There is no vulgarity and some nice bits on family values and religious harmony. Come on! Cinema need not always be dark and edgy. It's a long weekend ahead. And Dil Bole Hadippa is just the kind of movie you will enjoy with your family. This one is an easy watch.

Dil Bole Hadippa is a celebration of the never-say-die spirit of Yash Raj Films. For years they have epitomized bhartiya sanskriti amidst Punjab’s sarso-de-khet which they continue to do even today without much advancement.This time they seek faint inspiration from the Hollywood flick She’s The Man (2006), replace the soccer with cricket, liberally regurgitate plotlines from their recent library of films and deck it up with patriotic sentiments. Dil Bole Hadippa comes as another feel ‘good’ film from the Yash Raj banner but off late audiences have upgraded to ‘better’ narratives

‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ carries nothing exceptional other than usual traits of what a Yash Raj banner would offer: colorful costumes, grandiloquently rich locations in backdrops.The problem with ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ isn’t about including ‘Cricket’ factors, but the very clichéd way of narration. It would’ve been a spellbinding show, perhaps, if Anurag had conceptualized interesting and innovative ideas. On the pars, the screenplay fails to be riveting in many parts letting you easily predict what’s gonna happen next.Finally, ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ isn’t an appreciable piece of work from Yash Raj Banner. Sparing the exotic locations and performance by Rani Mukherji, the film hasn’t got anything special to watch out for.

Dil Bole Hadippa is a confused tale - with passion for cricket as its main backdrop, it blends in patriotism, romance, jealousy and many more varied emotions. Apart from the several loose ends in the script, DBH lacks excitement much like Rani's Tara Rum Pum. The first half of the movie is slow paced, but does have a moment or two worth of chuckles and a sizzling item number by Rakhi Sawant. Post interval the movie takes a romantic angle but before you could even realize, it completely takes up cricket and patriotism. Climax is just another run-of-a-mill kind To sum up, Dil Bole Hadippa is Rani Mukherji's show all the way. Sadly, the movie as a whole disappoints.
