Don't give SANKAT CITY a miss just because the film doesn't star the Khans or Kumars. This 'City' is worth a visit! .On the whole, SANKAT CITY is a small little gem that deserves a watch. Yes, there's a bombardment of new films week after week and chances are that this film may get sidetracked thanks to the invasion of biggies, with the multiplexes sidelining it to embrace the biggies. But here's a request to all cine lovers and also multiplexes, from this writer. Give this one a chance. Let's nurture it well, so that genuine efforts like SANKAT CITY don't go unnoticed.

The film may have a raw look and lack technical finesse, but don't be fooled. For Sankat City is a roller-coaster ride through downtown Mumbai (or any other metro) with its chota-mota crime and its chatpata characters. Truly, a delectable bhelpuri, marked by some fine acting by the ensemble cast. Standing tall amongst them is the mercurial Kay Kay and the quicksilver Rimmi Sen, who pitches in one of her best performances as the bindaas Bengali badmash, complete with the tacky clothes and the patchy make-up. Savour it.

Not really a roller-coaster ride, this one is more of a merry-go-round drive with several characters circularly connected to each other through multiple money rotations. Thankfully it’s not slapstick but follows a crazy-yet-credible storyline.Debutante director Pankaj Advani emerges as a good storyteller and manages to bind you with his multiple character-driven plot and multi-dimensional narrative. By the end, you realize that every character is integrally interlinked to the story and exploited effectively. Do visit Sankat City for some unadulterated entertainment.

"Sankat City" is one of those rare movies that have a dozen odd characters, all of whom are not just connected to one another but even contribute to the film's main plot. This is the reason why none of them can be called a supporting actor since they are all the principal protagonists in the film. All credit to debutante writer-director Pankaj Advani who brings them all together along with a more experienced star cast and spins a tale that is as original as it gets. What mars the film to an extent though are the production values, which can be termed below average. Lack of funds is clearly visible in all departments - whether it is art direction, choreography, sets or locations.

This one is a phataka! Director Pankaj Advani, who is also the writer of SANKAT CITY takes you on a roller coaster ride in and around the metropolis of Mumbai. It is comedy at its best with a cast of well-chosen characters who revel in their part. The dialogues will tickle you, the situations are hilarious and the camerawork, befitting the script and characters. It is Mumbai at its hilarious best and the title is apt! No gloss, no glamour, Advani simply goes for the jugular! Take a break, go watch SANKAT CITY and come out leaving your woes behind, albeit for a little while.

Size does matter, yes- and Sankat City probably outsize any other Hindi film playing in theatres currently as far as the fun factor goes, and without compromising on its own or its audiences' intelligence. Madcap, irreverent and cleverly written, Sankat City is bright entertainment, reminiscent of the likes of Kundan Shah's Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron. While it may lack certain panache and pizzazz- especially on the technical front (the money factor being at play), the film has enough to keep itself crackling and it's (so far) small audience chuckling right till the end.

The film’s biggest assets are the zany humour and also the acting by each and every actor. Pankaj Advani’s narrative style is terrific and keeps you engaged throughout. It is good debut by the filmmaker. While the first half breezes quickly, the second gets a little slow but however the film picks up well during the climax.Sankat City is a must watch for all those complaining to see something different yet full of fun.
