Borrowing too many tricks that have been used too many times before, director Suparn Verma kills what could have been an otherwise promising thriller by packing it with ridiculously silly chase scenes, gratuitous club songs, and outrageously idiotic dialogue.A film of this nature might still have worked if the holes in the plot hadn't been so glaring. I mean think about it -- six chaps can't remember a thing, and not one of them is carrying any ID?That's two out of five for director Suparn Verma's Acid Factory; you'll come out wishing you had inhaled some of that amnesia-inducing gas too.

The film opens on a promising note but loses much of its momentum through a sluggish first half which tends to get repetitive. The adrenalin pumps up in the second half, with Irrfan Khan adding the razor's edge to the proceedings with his silken smooth crookedness. Of course, we can hardly forget Dia Mirza with her black-leathered, high-heeled dominatrix debut -- a complete makeover -- but we do wish the bad girl had more do. Almost as much as we wish Fardeen Khan's savoir faire was given more screen time. Ultimately, what remains are Tinnu Verma's fast-paced stunts, a stylised look and a sufficiently engaging film that could have broken new ground.

At the same time, ACID FACTORY has its share of loose ends. The climax, for instance, could've been more impactful. Also, the concept is too urbane and holds appeal for the urban youth, who've a penchant for slick thrillers.Final word? ACID FACTORY is a well-crafted, well executed film with the ensemble cast pitching in competent performances. On the whole, ACID FACTORY is a slick thriller that has an interesting premise and also super stunts and chase sequences as its trump cards. The film is targeted at the urban youth, especially those who relish thrillers. Of course, the film will have to storm the dull pre-Diwali period which might curtail its prospects to an extent despite decent merits and also, the three biggies that arrive next Friday.

Acid Factory features some Sanjay Gupta staples -- men in black, women in high heels, bikes, cars and an industrial setting. As an added bonus you get some stylish opening credits, edgier, cooler than what follows. The film seems to be a wish-fulfilment of sorts for many people. Fardeen Khan gets to show off his shades and aviator jackets. Dino Morea gets to look like Johnny Depp. Aftab Shivdasani gets to bash up a few people. Manoj Bajpai gets to display some high-pitched histrionics. Danny gets a film and Dia Mirza gets to dress up like Lara Croft and fire a gun. Meanwhile Irrfan Khan, lucky guy, gets a limousine and kisses a girl. Twice, in slow motion. And they all get to blows, and scream -- 'I will kill you' -- every now and then.

The storytelling keeps oscillating back and forth in time to give a past account of each of the characters. While this format is initially effective, subsequently it succumbs in giving away the suspense of the plot much before the climax. As each character is introduced in the flashback, the mystery becomes more and more obvious. Rather than maintaining-the-mystery, the scheme of the storytelling switches to informing the viewer about the real identity of the characters more than the characters themselves (a treatment used more effectively in Johnny Gaddaar ). In between these two patterns the acid effect gets diluted. Acid Factory is a masala movie in the fast-food mode but could leave you with acidity pangs.

Verma and his action director Tinnu Verma choreograph a few high-adrenalin action sequences including one in which cars explode like popcorn – I stopped counting at 10.But there is nothing that you haven’t seen before. The galaxy of actors strut their stuff but the material is too laden to lift. It is accomplishment enough that they manage to keep a straight face while saying dialogue such as: we have no memory, remember. You could forgive the sheer silliness of the enterprise if the film delivered enough bang for the buck but Acid Factory can’t even manage that. See it if you must.

Acid Factory has some breathtaking action. But it's the basic flaws in the script that rob it off the desired thrills. For its action and some of Irrfan's well-improvised scenes, Acid Factory makes it to the watchable category. It's a wannabe action packed Hollywood B-movie. It gets the stupidity right, but falls short in attitude.
