Visit Site for MoreMeant strictly for viewers who aren’t turned off by gore, Rakta Charitra is a relentlessly violent vendetta saga from a director who clearly enjoys shocking his audience.On the flip side, Rakta Charitra jars on account of a bothersome voice-over, and the unending violence threatens to reduce the film to a string of killings in search of a plot. The motives behind much of the action in the film feel simplistic occasionally, and the degree of violence itself is likely to turn off even the brave-hearts.Yet in the end, Rakta Charitra is compelling and draws you into its drama.
It’s a bold, disturbing film that’s bursting with the kind of confidence we haven’t seen from the filmmaker recently. If the sight of blood doesn’t make you uncomfortable, chances are you’ll enjoy this film.

And Rakta Charitra does seem to be inspired by Tarantino's killing fest in Kill Bill. Not only is the violence unapologetic and relentless, it literally explodes in your face with the plethora of bloody images. Heads are battered, limbs are chopped off, necks are scythed, people are burnt, rivals are turned into rat food or simply thrown into wells and women, well women are summarily done away with after being done in.What makes the film watchable are a few set pieces which bear the masterly imprint the film maker who redefined the action genre in Indian cinema with films like Shiva, Satya and Company. Also, there is something alluring about Ram Gopal Varma's penchant to doggedly stay away from saccharine and sentiment and tell the story of India's ugly reality. Let me add, RAKHT CHARITRA is not one of RGV's most accomplished works. Perhaps, one of the reasons could be because he's now churning out gangster and crime-based films with amazing regularity and obviously, there's not much he can explore due to the limitations of this genre. But, yes, RAKHT CHARITRA has a fascinating story to tell and even if you aren't acquainted with Paritala Ravi, you might identify with RAKHT CHARITRA because the essence of the film is revenge. Final word? from the content point of view, I'd say that RAKHT CHARITRA is the best bet of this week.Visit Site for More

This film is part one of this horrifically fascinating story, which illustrates the heart of darkness that constitutes politics in India. The murderous saga of revenge and counter-revenge begins with momentum but then gets bogged down by its repetitive mayhem, an annoying voice-over and exhausting decibel levels. Varma isn’t one for subtlety. There are some powerful moments and strong performances here. But how much you relish Rakta Charitra is directly connected to your threshold for gore. A young man gets drawn into a blood curdling saga of revenge after members of his family are killed in cold blood by power hungry politicians. The young man not only avenges their death but in the process, becomes a messiah for the downtrodden.Sound familiar? Ram Gopal Varma doles out another concoction of outlaw politics with all his favourite ingredients -- an intense ensemble cast, new south Indian baddies, edgy wide angle camerawork and a trademark repetitive theme track.Sadly, Rakta Charitra lacks the taught writing of a Company or the raw reality of Satya.Once the film is over you realise that all Rakta Charitra has been is a two hour promotional fare for Rakta Charitra 2. Actually, the screenplay (penned by Ram Gopal Varma and Prashant Pandey) is only about plotting, planning and executing murders and little else. This sets off monotony for the audience.Also, the climax looks abrupt if only because it speaks about the beginning of the sequel. Therefore, the audience does not experience the high it should as the ending is not ‘conclusive’ in that sense of the term. Also, the whole drama is so long and boring that the impact of the thrill element is reduced. Dialogues (Prashant Pandey) are effective.Ram Gopal Varma’s direction is effective but his script and narrative style would appeal only to those who love bloodshed and violence on screen. Ladies and family audiences would not approve of the excessive blood-and-gore scenes. On the whole, Rakht Charitra is too violent and crude to be entertaining.Visit Site for More

The story in itself is nothing more than a regular revenge-drama but what makes you connect compellingly with the chronicle is the fact that it's a biographical adaptation of a real-life character who was once the most dreaded name in South India. Despite being a political drama, Ramu never delves deep into the intricacies of the affairs of the state and keeps the story straightforward for easy understanding.The pace is fast and doesn't give you time to ponder over proceedings.The film ends rather abruptly as Ramu promises more action in the sequel, showing glimpses of what's in store, pretty much like a television episode culminates. The viewer's disappointment for a definite climax is substituted with the anticipation emerging from the introduction of a new opponent to Vivek Oberoi in the form of Suriya.Till then relish Rakta Charitra .
