MURDER 2 offers edge of the seat entertainment, thus taking the MURDER brand forward. It's not a sequel in the true sense of the word. It has a completely new story to tell. While the screenplay gives you no time to ponder since it unravels at a feverish pace, the assorted characters and their tracks keep you on tenterhooks throughout. On the whole, MURDER 2 is one of the finest crime stories to come out of the Hindi film industry. Also, as a film, it lives up to the expectations that you may associate from a sequel of a smash hit. This one's bolder, more erotic and has a story that will astound and astonish you.

For all those who loved Murder, a word of caution. Murder 2 lacks the mellifluity and the passionate chemistry between the lead players. Murder 2 works primarily due to its pace. The first half is racy and scuttles through as the grotesque killer closes on his sundry kills. The second half does have Emraan meandering aimlessly on a futile search for a victim and he does take too long to close in. But any sluggishness in pace is made up by the performances. There may be nothing original about the story, yet Murder 2 has enough to give the masses a mast time.

The first Murder worked because of a molten Mallika Sherawat the genuinely raw chemistry between her and Hashmi, and director Anurag Basu keeping things taut. It was a ripoff, sure, but a darned effective one. Murder 2 is flat, boring and not worth talking about. Even Emraan, sporting less stubble than usual, seems babyfaced as he goes through the motions. It might be inspired by some obscure film, but I don't even care enough to look for its name.

The plot seems original. The narration is clenched and the characters driven by a desperate urge to assert themselves before death rings their doorbell.Murder 2 is not a pleasant film to view. The psychopath's killings are done in graphic detail. The storytelling offers no respite from the brutality. Most of the time we are looking at happenings that we would rather not see. But see, we must

Is Murder 2 a slicker flick than the 2004 Mallika Sherawat starrer that it is a follow-up to? Yes, quite patently. Is it darker in tone and texture? Yes, most definitely. And is it steamier? Yes again, beyond an iota of doubt. But does it deliver the degree of novelty and crackling energy that Anurag Basu’s Murder did seven years ago? Not really. To be fair, Murder 2 is edgy, fast-paced and pretty punchy, but only in parts. Murder 2 gets two stars plus a half for its villain.

What makes the flick a tad less standard procedure is the taut first half, which doesn’t let you move from the seat, followed by a muddled, too-long second. For a thriller, that’s almost as good as kissing the film good-bye. But what will keep ‘Murder 2’ in our memories is its thoroughly deranged villain

Frankly, the screenplay is one of complete convenience and written without much application of mind. Still, what does work for the audience are some violent and gross scenes which scare the viewer but even they can put off the ladies audience. It doesn’t have too much to offer in terms of entertainment as it is a dark film but its plus points are the abundant sex scenes and the good music.

The narrative (which does get gory at times) is packed with numerous thrilling moments. One wonders how the film will unfold once Arjun gets hold of Dheeraj in the first half itself. But there is enough in store to keep you entertained. However, the second half does meander for a while. The film undoubtedly belongs to Prashant Narayan, who delivers a splendid performance. To give him credit, he elevates the film to a great extent. An intriguing plot supported by a superb performance by Prashant Narayan, make MURDER 2 a 'killer' film.

The reasons to watch the movie would be performance, script and steam (strictly in the order). As mentioned, it’s a villain’s script, where the bad guy rules the screen every time he makes an appearance. Apart from Prashant, others fall flat and fail to make an impact, which might disappoint the thriller lovers. The movie has a gripping storyline, but definitely not for family viewing. It entertains in the two hour package it offers. If Emraan plus Jacqueline under the name 'Murder 2' don't arise your interest enough, then the story will surely do the trick.
