To be fair, there are portions of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani that are so funny your sides will ache from laughing. But for the most part, it's a silly comedy that goes for slapstick gags and juvenile jokes that are hard to appreciate. Director Rajkumar Santoshi's latest comedy tries too hard to maintain an even tempo, but save for the lead pair's crackling chemistry and some charming moments involving Ranbir Kapoor, the film is an agonizing bore.

I have often said that comedy is serious business and the audience has moved over from banana peel humour in movies. The comedy in AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI - though it borders on absurdity - is funny in most parts. Sure, there're times when you feel that the humour looks forced [climax fight especially], but you don't grudge it since Santoshi's intentions are crystal clear from Scene 1 onwards: Entertainment ke liye kuch bhi karega.Yet, despite the blemishes, AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI is a full-on entertainer. One thing is for sure, you'd fall in prem with Prem and his antics. An ideal date movie that should connect with the youth.

Gazab comedy, this one. Really, Ranbir is a revelation, Katrina is full of beans and the newly formented Ranbir-Katrina chemistry sets the screen on fire in this mad hatter's tea party that takes you on a roller-coaster ride as Raj Kumar Santoshi tries to retrack his way to his Andaz Apna Apna days. The Salman-Aamir comic caper may not have stormed the box office in the 1990s but today, it has devoted fans who don't miss it on its umpteen TV re-runs. Ajab Prem... might not suffer the same fate and may kick up some fun moments in the here and now, rather than the future. Raj Kumar Santoshi penning some of the funniest dialogues in recent times and you have a great escape awaiting you at your favourite audi this weekend. Go, have a ball.

this one oscillates between silent movie slapstick and moronic farce, between memorable witticisms and melodrama so extreme it can only be for laughs.Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani might be laden with faults in the conventional sense of the word, but if you give yourself over to the madness, you emerge having a pretty good time. Watch it through 80s-tinted glasses and you'll have an absolute ball.Honestly, it's just good to watch a film with memorable comedy again. Heaven knows its been a while. And one that takes us back to a different, more wholesome kind of cinema. Even as the climax drags into predictability, Santoshi ensures that even divine intervention -- to pull it all back on track again -- comes with laughs. Gotta love that.

Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani, a comedy set in a comic book universe, is a frustratingly uneven film. Some of it is genuinely funny and delightful and some of it is repetitive, and annoyingly tedious. In its best moments, Ajab Prem is crackling comedy.Santoshi keeps it light, fluffy and fun. There is a real sweetness in the scenes in which Prem and Jenny first discover that the other also stammers. Some of the dialogues sparkle. The trouble is that the film cannot maintain this tone and energy. So, the humour dips and the gags become forced.Hopefully someday, Ranbir will find a script that matches his talent.Ajab Prem isn't it. But the film is engaging enough, as we say in Mumbai, time-pass. Go for it.

The film starts slowly, but once it picks up, it's breathless till the interval, dragging once again in the second half. The inconsistent flow is one of the drawbacks of the film and the myriad characters just make things too haphazard. The humour takes time to find its meter -- starting out slapstick and juvenile and edging along to genuinely amusing, sometimes charming.Thankfully, Kaif and Kapoor never falter. They keep you riveted. It's a perfect part for Kaif. As for Kapoor, it's time for him to try something new. He has mastered this type of part and character. Overall, not a bad choice for the weekend and likely to appeal to young viewers.

There are enough comic situations to justify that this is a comedy but not enough substance to validate the overemphasis on love. In the end, it's more a masala flick than a comedy. But thanks to Ranbir, this film becomes bearable and there are moments he has you in his grasp, either with his performance or simply by his sheer presence. Katrina Kaif looks pretty as usual and has done a good job.

The usually innovative Raj Kumar Santoshi opts for a surprisingly conventional formula. His execution too is uninspired borrowing heavily from past entertainers. Katrina and Ranbir add a certain energy to the proceedings. Their spontaneous and innocent love story is bound to strike a chord with the young crowd. With such a gorgeous pair, Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, could have been a charming joyride. But instead it settles for a routine, time pass watch. Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif's chemistry shines long after the curtains fall down.
