Neither slick nor fast-paced, this film lumbers in circles before crashing into a moronic finale involving ridiculous back-stories about dead family members.In the end, despite its travel-brochure look that might afford some momentary National Geographic-style relief, Blue doesn't have a shred of intelligence, and it sinks in a sea of lame writing and laughable performances. I'm going with one-and-a-half out of five for director Anthony D'souza's Blue; beneath its flashy exterior, it's one dead fish. Watch it strictly at your own risk.

Bollywood goes underwater and comes up a winner. Blue is fresh and fulsome, boasting of some great deep sea shots ( by Pete Zuccarini, cinematographer, Pirates of the Caribbean fame), stunning above sea level action sequences, a crackling background music score and sound design by India's two Oscar winners (AR Rahman and Resul Pookutty), a short and engaging reel length that keeps the proceedings pithy, two hot girls (Lara Dutta and Katrina Kaif too in a glam guest role) and a whole lot of guy stuff....Like, bare-bodied Akshay swimming with the sharks and stingrays, lean and mean Zayed blasting away on designer bikes, Sanjay Dutt, sadly with a paunch, sparring with Akshay in the boxing ring and the threesome donning their diving gear to discover a hidden treasure in picture postcard Bahamas.

Let me keep it concise and to the point. You haven't watched something like this on the Hindi screen before. Never ever! It requires courage, willpower, fortitude, vision and of course, the financial backing to accomplish a project of this magnitude. And debutante director Anthony D'Souza puts his skills and the financial resources to best use. BLUE is not merely a stunning looking film, it's also a well structured film. Most importantly, it's a solid entertainer that packs in so much in those 1.58 hours. Final word? Go, grab a ticket, if you haven't booked one yet. This under-sea treasure hunt is a kickass film. A must-see for all those who love adventure flicks.

Blue, directed by debutante Anthony D Souza, sets a new benchmark in Hindi filmmaking.It boasts of some stunning underwater photography, the likes of which you may not have seen before in an Indian film.It has some scintillating action sequences both on the ground and underwater, superbly shot.And the film is a warning to all those women who boast of their so-called bikini shots. Lara Dutta shows you how to wear the two-piece, and look like a goddess of the sea.Now that we are done with the pleasantries, here's what you actually need to know about Blue. It sets a new benchmark in squandering money and opportunity.This film is an example how even with Rs 100 crore -- the reported budget -- worth of eye-popping gimmicks and stunts, you can make thriller that ends up being hilarious.And that's largely because of the ridiculous plot, the inane dialogues and plain bad direction.

Blue is the perfect example of a good 100 crores going down the drain. Sure the film promises some brilliant visuals and underwater images never seen before in Indian films thanks to one of the finest underwater cinematographers in the world (Pete Zuccarini). But sadly the credit list literally lacks the mention of a screenplay writer. Director Anthony D’Souza deserves applause for testing water with entering an entirely new territory, not attempted before this side of Pacific. The logistics of such filmmaking are extremely demanding and he hasn’t compromised on the standards. But his storytelling certainly lacks the finesse which could have made this project a more entertaining fare.Blue doesn’t glue you to the seat. Rather its corniness can make you see red.

So, what is the end result of all this money and talent? An incredibly dim-witted underwater thriller that has the most unintentionally hilarious climax since Imran Khan survived a bullet to the chest in Luck .Clearly Anthony D’Souza has ambition. He set out to give Indian audiences a new type of exotic thriller. But he got so busy orchestrating the king-sized stars, the equally big sharks and the blinding bling of the film that he forgot the basic connective tissue: the script. Blue is all washed up. See it if you must.

Blue has all the ingredients to make a film work – from treasure hunt, breathtaking visuals, underwater action and speeding bikes to resurrecting family honour – but sadly, it fails to touch a chord with the audience. Also for those hunting for a storyline, it actually begins and ends at the basic synopsis level. A thriller should have a racy script that keeps you on-the-edge. Here the pace is rather disappointing.Technically, the camerawork and sound do have an international feel. The three bike sequences featuring Zayed become better and better and the underwater fights are something unusual for a Bollywood film.
