But 90 minutes is too long for a spoof. The jokes tend to get repetitive in the film's second half and the energy begins to wane. Fifteen minutes shorter, and a few indulgences less, this might have been an extraordinary watch. In its current form though, it's still a barrel of laughs. I'm going with three out of five and a thumbs up for director Shashanka Ghosh's Quick Gun Murugun. If all you're looking for is a relaxed time at the movies, then believe me, this is Good Fun Murugun.

The problem with QGM is that it is not half as good on celluloid as it sounds as an idea. To make a smooth transition from a TV filler to a full-length feature, QGM needed more than mere attitude. But it ends up feeling like a spoof of a spoof. The movie, though, has its moments. The action scenes occasionally raise a chuckle. In the climax, Murugan even grabs a bullet fired at him in his mouth. Some of the gags work. And Rajendra Prasad gets the protagonist's part right. His exchanges with Rambha offer the most endearing and hilarious moments of the film. When Dolly confesses having failed to win a beauty contest, he says, "It is not IAS. You can try again."You cannot blame director Shashanka Ghosh and writer Rajesh Devraj for not trying something different. They are bang on with the movie's looks. Too bad, the team fails to create its soul.

Welcome to the crazy, madcap world of QUICK GUN MURUGAN. In this film, the hero and villain are at loggerheads. The fight is between vegetarian and non-vegetarian [meals]. Here, the villain wants to make the best dosa in town and kidnaps women who have the perfect recipe for making delicious dosas. QUICK GUN MURUGAN is not the stereotypical movie, but it borrows from all stereotypical movies that made Indian cinema so distinct from rest of the world. The best part is, QUICK GUN MURUGAN is innovative. One sentence verdict? Try this dosa... it's delicious!

But lest you go in expecting some bawdy humour and slapstick comedy, be warned. QMG is not your typical slide-splitting, laugh-a-minute fare. And it definitely does not expect you to 'leave your brains behind'. The laughs do happen but more often you are left smiling at the intelligent dialogues and their allusions to cultural idiosyncrasies, the parodies and the sarcasm. From his two-minute life span on a music channel, Quick Gun Murugun has come a long way indeed and deserves this full length feature dedicated to our very own Indian Cowboy with a buckle to die for (Stylists, may I please have a replica of the same?!)On the whole, QMG is as delicious as Mrs Murugun's dosas. As Rice Plate would have said, "A1, Tip Top!"

A spoof doesn’t merely mean imitating and exaggerating clichés. It’s imperative that the output of the amplification be funny to pull-off a successful satire. The character Quick Gun Murugun (flamboyance of Clint Eastwood’s cowboy meeting the larger-than-life heroism of South Indian superstars) might appear interesting but all it does is resort to clichés on the excuse of spoof which amuses the least. So much of noise on the pretext of parody! We do mind it !

We thought it would be a fun film. Stupid stupid thought! The tale of the original Indian cowboy, inspired by the quintessential 'Bawliwud Ishtylish' hero, Quick Gun Murugan is light years away from being anything funny. What you've already seen of Quick Gun in trailers, is all that's worth seeing. Don't even bother watching the film. It will only spoil the character already created by Shah Rukh Khan in OSO years back.
