Bodyguard Movie Review

Bodyguard, his latest, is another lazy remake (of a Malayalam film) that banks squarely on the actor’s considerable charm to make up for its archaic plot, sluggish pace, and puerile humor. Bodyguard suffers from that most fatal flaw that’s unforgivable in the final reckoning – it’s boring!.I’m going with two out of five for director Siddique’s Bodyguard. No question it’s going to make a lot of money at the box-office, but you have to be a die-hard fan to forgive this film its many flaws. The rest must resign themselves to the fact that there’s truth in that dialogue Aditya Pancholi’s character says about our hero in the film: “Iska time accha chal raha hai.”

BODYGUARD is atypical Salman entertainer, yet there are moments [in its second hour specifically] that make it stand apart from all Salman starrers we have witnessed in the recent past. BODYGUARD presents Salman exactly the way we expect him to be presented, but, at the same time, the film brings back memories of the soft, romantic roles that Salman essayed in his initial films.  On the whole, BODYGUARD works for varied reasons -- it has a simple, but captivating story with a dramatic twist in the tale, the chemistry between the lead actors is perfect and the music is well juxtaposed in the narrative. But its biggest USP is, without doubt, Salman Khan. He carries the film on his broad and brawny shoulders and that alone is the imperative reason for watching this film. BODYGUARD should emerge his third festive hit and fourth super-success at the ticket window.

Once again, Bodyguard opened to an uproarious crowd, but all the din could not drown the fact that this one's mostly a non-happening film with a first half that gets extremely repetitive and boring. The film, a remake of a South Indian hit, may end up as another blockbuster, like most Salman films have been doing in the recent past. Yet, sadly, this one's mostly bluster. Only for diehard Salman Khan fans, Bodyguard has nothing to offer to the fastidious cineaste.

Of course, whether you find Bodyguard entertaining or not will hinge entirely on whether you have any patience for a storyline that is as brainless as a pea. The story soars on the wings of wild whimsy without for once letting logic getting in the way.In the ultimate analysis, Bodyguard is an out-and-out Salman Khan film meant to be taken in the festive spirit of the season. Love it or lump, chances are that its backers will be laughing all the way to that bank while you, if you aren’t willing to give its excesses a long rope, will be tearing your hair out in exasperation.

What’s Good: Salman Khan’s endearing character; his performance; the mass-appealing action and comedy; the well-tuned music and well-choreographed songs. What’s Bad: The half-baked screenplay; the unanswered questions that leave the audience with a feeling of incompleteness. Watch Bodyguard for Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor’s performances. On the whole, Bodyguard had the germs to become a super-hit fare but it remains a good fare mainly because its script looks contrived and too convenient at places

A standard entertainer with generic ingredients like action, emotion, romance, comedy, song and dance, the Hindi remake of Malayalam super-hit Bodyguard is like a mediocre Pizza Margherita that's gone stingy on the mozzarella, bland on the sauce with nothing except a half-crunchy base and uneven scattering of basil leaves. It's not like Bodyguard is devoid of fanciful thrills but they're far too few and in between.Ultimately, it's the Salman's undeniable presence coupled a rare ability to mock himself and Kareena's hard-hitting radiance in a role she would excel in even if she sleepwalked through it that makes Bodyguard seem a tad better than it actually is

In Bodyguard the effort may be once again in the tradition of Wanted, Dabangg and Ready. Snag is that it’s majorly unsteady. Result, it’s the least likeable of the lot. Of niceties like plausibility it doesn’t have a jot. At most, Salman Khan is presented as a mix of Rajni sir, Superman (sans vulnerable Clark Kent moments) and Lara Croft. Those who care for entertainment, with a shred of sense and sensibility, had bettter be on guard before buying a ticket to this body, body baatein.

Here's what this film's super-star should do next. Pick up, remake every regional blockbuster of Rajnikanth's from the recent past. That's what super-hero, cartoon character Salman is to the Hindi audiences by now: Rajnikanth for the excitable North. I don't merely mean this for their films' genre. Try uttering a word against either on the Internet. You'll get suitably acquainted with the fatal consequences of sheer blasphemy. I know, I will, it's scary. Bodyguard, please? Thank you

Eid is the time for a Salman Khan blockbuster and you expect a film replete with dialoguebaazi, maardhar and some outrageous moments that are made enjoyable due to Salman’s ability to pull off the zaniest scripts. Bodyguard has none of these. For a change, there’s a more definite story than usual but it’s so convoluted and stupid, you’d have actually settled for a film with a lesser story, but which entertained more.Talking about the story would be futile, so these are some things about Bodyguard you may want to keep in mind: The humour isn’t funny, although the attempts never cease. The ‘emotional’ scenes, on the other hand, are hilarious

I am no fan of Salman but cannot help applauding his performance in BODYGUARD, which has to be one among his best. It's Salman all the way with Kareena Kapoor bringing in the brilliance of Geet from JAB WE MET. Mention must be made of Tsunami, a character who entertains without being a jerk. Last Eid it was DABAANG, this Eid, it's BODYGUARD. A double whammy. Salman bhai, Eid Mubarak!

There are three movies struggling to emerge from Salman Khan's Popeye-like biceps. A cheeky, live-my-life movie where a bodyguard who travels by local train gets to share space with a princess who lives in a palace in the fictional Jaisinghpur. A sexy, physical romance where Khan's pectorals are in conversation with Kareena Kapoor's aesthetically curved belly, bared in a sari that stays up through sheer will power. And a social drama which pits a feudal sarkar-raj mindset with a modern urge to choose love.Unfortunately all three sub plots are crushed under the mighty weight of the Khan star machine.
