Besides spinning a charming yarn, Benegal bankably draws a first-rate ensemble performance. Shreyas Talpade, after Iqbal, gets a role worthy of his calibre. He’s terrific. Amrita Rao is sweetness personified. Cameos from Ravi Kissan, Divya Dutta and Yashpal Sharma are lifelike.Yup, so Sajjanpur is different, it has a conscience, and merits a ticket from those who have one too.

In the end, the movie is a beautiful, complete, moving experience, and years from now will be regarded as one of Benegal's most layered films. I'm going with four of out five and two big thumbs up for Shyam Benegal's Welcome To Sajjanpur. It's a sweet, simple story of life in a village, a bittersweet tale of human frailties, a small film with a very big heart. Watch it because gems like these are hard to find.

Every actor in WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR delivers a sparkling performance, but the show belongs to Shreyas Talpade. This is his most accomplished performance since IQBAL. Amrita Rao is admirable. It's at par with VIVAH. On the whole, WELCOME TO SAJJANPUR is an interesting watch. At the box-office, the film has the potential to go from strength to strength with a positive word of mouth.

Like a master craftsmen, Benegal not only introduces you to the sundry characters -- the child widow, the abandoned wife, the harried mother, the corrupt neta, the romantic compounder -- he also helps you connect with them. You almost wish the postmaster's love story reaches a happy end, even as you hope the seductive widow finds her soulmate. It's simple, uncomplicated storytelling that leaves a smile on your face.

Films like Welcome to Sajjanpur are tricky to form an opinion about. They have got so much going for them, but, nonetheless, aren't above fault.Lack of perfection aside, Shyam Benegal's new film doesn't belong to any genre in entirety. It's assuredly funny, unexpectedly grim and sufficiently preachy to be a full-blown satire.
