Clocking in at almost three hours, Yamla Pagla Deewana is an exhausting but occasionally enjoyable comedy that only takes flight after intermission. Packed with loud jokes, gratuitous item songs, a Priyadarshan-esque climax, and completely over-the-top fight scenes, this film knows exactly who its audience is and doesn't shy away from wooing them.It's fun in parts but tires you out by the time it finally comes to an end. I'm going with two-and-a-half out of five for Yamla Pagla Deewana. If you're a fan of the Deols and you enjoy old-fashioned masala entertainers, give it a chance. But the Deols can do better than this!

What makes YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA work? A variety of reasons, if you ask me. One, watching the Deol parivaar in one frame is an experience in itself. Two, drama, emotions and light moments are smartly integrated in the narrative. Three, the punches [most of them] are thoroughly enjoyable. Four, the entertainment quotient. Most importantly, it delivers what it promised in its promos: Laughter and amusement. It's a film that caters to the aam aadmi, who's keen on having a good time at the movies.On the whole, YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA is a hardcore mass entertainer that fulfils the expectations of the aam junta. Those who love Deols will adore this one, while those who don't, won't ignore it either.

The film is meant to showcase the Deol charisma. And that it manages to do, despite a clumsy first-half and a stodgy script. The brawny threesome does manage to transcend the flaws in the narrative and create some comic moments with their earthy, rustic, pulsating Punjabiyat exploding full throttle. Watch it for its unbridled goofiness, the attempt to laugh at the Punjabi stereotypes and for the Deol chemistry that makes you chuckle, now and then.

Here Karnik creates a broad, largely nonsensical narrative that allows each one to play up his image and make fun of it.Each one gets to do everything – comedy, fights, item numbers and for good measure, a few emotional scenes as well.The script by Jasvinder Singh Bath, puts too much pressure on Bobby – he has too much screen time and not enough expressions.By the end, I was all Deol’ed out. If it had been crisper and the writing better, Yamla Pagla Deewana had the potential to be a rollicking good time.Unfortunately, it’s only intermittently funny and extremely exhausting. I’m going with two and a half stars.

Unfortunately, the trailer is all Yamla Pagla Deewana has to offer, the film itself nowhere near funny or clever enough to warrant a recommendation. It's a drag, with long unfunny stretches of Bobby-ness, and the sad truth is that it could have been such a blast.Starting with a weathered montage of lost-and-found shots, the film clearly wants to be a spoof but perpetually, exasperatingly, stops short of full-on farce by getting mawkish, emotional and even weepy. To be fair, the film's second half does rustle up a few scenes of momentum, but this is a nearly three-hour film and we all deserve better. As do the Deols.

Debut-making writer Jasvinder Singh Bath makes it amply clear right in the beginning that the film lays very little emphasis on logic. Having done that, he weaves a screenplay around a routine story, which tries to add as much comedy and humour as possible. While he doesn’t quite succeed in the first half, which is boring, he makes up for it after interval. Even in the second half, there is not much effort to give the audience a smooth-flowing drama. Rather, gags and funny incidents are what keep the audience interest alive after interval.What does work in the emotional part of the drama is Paramveer Singh’s genuine efforts to unite the family.Masses, go for it surely! Classes, go for it only if you can leave your brains at home.

YPD leaves you confused. It’s an effort to sit through the film till interval point, and it’s intermittently entertaining after. But what do you do about a film that you like in parts – where two-three sequences bring the house down, while the humour in other scenes falls flat on its face?.The film finds its groove in the second half, and while many scenes are downright hilarious, you do hope the tempo was maintained throughout.YPD is not a film meant to be taken seriously. If anything, it spoofs everything the three actors have made a living out of, and while it seems slightly self-indulgent at times, what really bothers you is that it fails to connect consistently.Apart from an earnest performance by Sunny Deol and some really hilarious scenes in the second half, Yamla Pagla Deewana is a tiresome watch.Watch only if you are a die-hard Deol fan

This film, featuring Bollywood’s original beloved Jat yamla pagla deewana, is geared squarely at the self-same Pummys and Luckys, and those like them that understand, instinctively, that while a red-blooded Punjabi male may quite happily be married to a white `mem’, he will always love his `bebe’ better.Like in all good Bollywood movies, there will be a happy ending. To reach that point, however, we are subjected to the loudest set of dialogues and the most vacuous set of characters we’ve been confronted with in a while.
