It's hard not to be moved by the coming-of-age journey at the heart of director Vikramaditya Motwane's Udaan.With Udaan, Vikramaditya Motwane makes a terrific directing debut, offering up a film whose images will linger in your head long after you've left your seat. The film reaches out because it's sincere. It tells Rohan's story in the only way it could have been told -- without the commercial trappings that might have made it an easier watch. And yet you're overwhelmingly happy that it isn't compromised cinema.I'm going with four out of five and a recommendation not to miss Udaan. Poignant, unsettling and disturbing, UDAAN is a brilliant take of an adolescent who has stepped into his teens and how he faces a tyrant father, a step brother he never knew existed and how he eventually breaks the shackles and frees himself from a world that's slowly suffocating him..I genuinely feel that UDAAN borrows something from everyone's life. And that's what makes it an absorbing watch, especially its defining finale. Final word? This one's a must-see for every parent, every child. This coming-of-age story is unique and speaks a universal language and hence, shouldn't be missed! On the whole, UDAAN is a simple, straight-forward film that doesn't need to be explained. Udaan is unconventional Bollywood at its biting best. The film is a moody, introspective and ekdum different look at teenage angst: an issue that has never been given the importance it deserves in Hindi cinema Udaan has the edgy feel and the bitter sweet emotional core characteristic of India's neo wave cinema. No, life ain't all ha-ha-hee-hee and families that eat together don't always stay together, happily-ever-after. There's a lot of rough-and-tumble-beneath the gloss and that's where all the real drama actually lies. Get down to some real business. Enter some real homes. Grapple with some real problems. Much against our will, at several instances in life, one has to helplessly bow down to some entity – be it your teacher, boss, kin or anyone else. Udaan narrates a tale where a son is almost on an extended detention under his disciplinarian father’s domain. Through this allegory, Udaan inspires one to break away from all bindings of life and fly freely. Udaan is refreshingly distinct and unyielding. In his superbly penned, alongside co-writer Anurag Kashyap, account of a teenage boy, he makes some relevant points while drawing a poignant picture of wounded relationships giving rise to unlikely family in the face of abuse and neglect.Udaan has a simple enough plot but it's the finer nuances of its screenplay that lend it memorable profundity. It's undoubtedly a significant film about the youth, so often disparaged for the eager, restless quest of their grand dreams and wild imagination. Visit Site for MoreAnurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane’s script is very modern in thought. It has some extremely bold scenes which will be loved by the youngsters whom this film targets. However, the older generation will definitely not approve of bold scenes like Rohan smoking a cigarette in front of his father and the last sequence of Rohan and his father together.The film gets very boring at places because of the slow pace. Therefore, even though there’s a scene every now and then, which startles the viewer, the impact is lost due to the painfully slow drama. Anurag Kashyap’s dialogues are superb.On the whole, low-budgeted Udaan is a bold film which has the merits to appeal to the youth but only in select cities. However, its poor promotion and dull initial will definitely tell on its box-office prospects.

Every boy heads towards manhood, and the rites of that passage determine what kind of life he will have. `Udaan’ is a terrific, moving coming-of-age film, made by first-time director Vikramaditya Motwane. Motwane knows his subject and terrain from the inside, and directs with complete assurance.
