Unpredictability is usually a good thing when it comes to movies, but 'Tanu Weds Manu' is unpredictable to the point of being bizarre.'Tanu Weds Manu' suffers from a painful 'Jab We Met' hangover. 'Tanu Weds Manu' isn't all bad. There are portions in the first half that enjoyable. But held together by a fractured script, they fail to take good shape.I'm going with two out of five for director Anand Rai's 'Tanu Weds Manu'. It's got some fine moments. Unfortunately they're few and far between.

TANU WEDS MANU has some great moments, some standard ones, some tedious ones as well, when you feel that the story is being stretched for no particular reason. The drama tends to get heavy after a point and that takes a toll on the film. In fact, the writing gets shaky in the middle of the second hour, although the finale is well thought of and implemented. You may call it clichéd or formulaic, but it works big time.On the whole, TANU WEDS MANU is a feel-good, light-hearted entertainer with the right dose of humor, drama and romance, besides a popular musical score and some smart dialogue that act as toppings. If you like simple, uncomplicated films that tug at your heartstrings, then chances are that you might just like this sweet little rom-com.

Been there, done that? Yes, the first thing that strikes you about Tanu Weds Manu is a striking sense of familiarity. It wasn't long before you saw Shahid Kapoor playing a similar sacrificial lover to Kareena Kapoor in Jab We Met.But the deja vu doesn't last long. For despite the predictable -- and paper thin -- storyline, the film manages to hook you with its sheer atmospherics. Fun while it lasts, Tanu Weds Manu throws up Bollywood's newest obsession -- small town girls and their gunas (values) -- once again. A meatier storyline and a less messed up climax would have worked wonders for the film.

Why should you watch Tanu Weds Manu? For R Madhavan who will win you heart as a sweet lovable NRI doctor Manu who has the misfortune of falling in love with a Kanpur-girl Tanu (Kangna Ranaut) who not only rejects him as a suitor but also uses him to elope with her ruffian boyfriend.Though the director picked up an interesting subject, he has not succeeded in executing his story effectively on screen - there are not enough laughs in the film. But there is something missing to make it a perfect romantic comedy. If you are looking for a great romantic comedy, this is not the one, but watch it for Madhavan and his chemistry with Deepak.

Tanu Weds Manu is a pleasant experience for most part. Sharma fails to maintain the zing till the very end though. A disappointing, lengthy and gabby third-act makes Tanu Weds Manu's running time of 2 hours and 15 minutes longer than it is. It's a shame for a script that has previously recognized the strength of communicating in silence or subtlety. In a candid moment, Manu's father tells Pappi that he'll be happy if his son gets married and settles down but even if he chooses not to, 'Main apne ghar mein khushi se baitha hoon.' That's Tanu Weds Manu for you. It doesn't take offense at anything but will charm you anyway.

What's not to like? There's the shaadi-baarat, the romance, lovely clothes, and the atmospherics that transport you into another world.Yes, the film is cliché-ridden, has elements of rom-coms like Jab We Met, and Shergill's character track doesn't quit add up, but the film isn't aiming for anything more than a one-time watch entertainer.
Anand L Rai (Thodi Life Thoda Magic, Strangers) makes a sweet romantic comedy that'll have you smiling as you leave the theatre.

Although the first half gets a bit wobbly before the interval, it's pretty watchable primarily because of Tanu's crazy histrionics. The problem lies in the second half when the narrative takes the much traversed path of numerous past movies. It's a mixed bag of HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM, JAB WE MET and PYAAR TOH HONA HI THA. The predictable end is not a problem, the docile script is.TANU WEDS MANU lacks the freshness required for a breezy romantic flick. The wedding doesn't turn out to be a grand one.

Himanshu Sharma’s story and screenplay are fresh and very engaging. The best part of the screenplay is that it progresses smoothly and quite logically so that the drama doesn’t bore or dip anywhere. Also, the characters are so interesting and the ambience – whether of Kanpur or Kapurthala – so real that the audience gets the feeling of watching a real and authentic drama unfold on the screen. On the whole, Tanu Weds Manu is a family entertainer which will hit the bull’s eye. It may be a slow starter but it will pick up phenomenally by positive word of mouth and ultimately go on to become a hit.
