ALOO CHAAT makes you smile sporadically. At most times it's like watching a TV serial that's not hard to predict. 20 minutes into the film and you know what the culmination would be.ALOO CHAAT suffers due to one major reason: It just doesn't hold your attention. The screenplay relies on the same old tricks and the same old situations that we've watched over and over again. You do smile at times not because the scenes are funny, but because the dialogues are witty. On the whole, ALOO CHAAT just doesn't work. Below average

So what do we have here? A spoof on the East versus West debate along with an effortless plea for integration. While Aamna Sharif does manage to make a charming transition from TV to films, it is stalwarts like Manoj Pahwa, Sanjay Mishra and Kulbhushan Kharbanda who keep the momentum flowing. Appetising fare.

This movie is not as tedious as some other 'comedies' that have robbed us of valuable hours of our lives in the recent past, but it still feels like a single episode of a television sitcom was stretched to feature length. It would be interesting to see what these two rumoured real-life lovebirds would be able to do with a script that actually gave their characters a narrative arc and told a story through them. Aloo Chaat unfortunately is not that script, or film. Those venturing into a cinema to watch this, do so at their own peril.

The narrative is kept crisp and concise, and focuses mainly on female bonding within the family. The comedy isn’t slapstick. The humour is handled rationally; Some scenes have you in splits. Also, the Aloo Chaat symbolism is smartly incorporated in the story.Aloo Chaat isn’t any boring health food. It’s instead easily edible and guarantees some tangy tickles.

You could find this movie offensive and/or irritating if you could even begin to take it seriously. It has its stray moments, but they are more like aberrations. This is a chaat that will give you a very bad case of Delhi belly.

Barring a few laughs here and there, most of it is a drag. It's boring screenplay and slow pace fails to create an impact of a good comedy. With tighter execution, Aloo Chaat could have been a breezy, time pass affair. It might still be endurable on home video. But otherwise you are better off enjoying some real aloo chaat outside the theatre.

Like all other films this week, this one too is interestingly titled. But Aloo Chaat’s content is not as palatable as the film’s mouth-watering name. One can’t recommend Aloo Chaat simply because the `who’s-a-good-bahu’ recipe has turned stale, and the audience’s taste has since evolved.

Aloo Chaat the film, is rich in masala - with plots within sub-plots, with wisecracks dripping endlessly like that tangy chutney, and is a treat that you don't want to miss.It tickles you, shakes you, rattles you, and gags you as it takes you through the narrow lanes and equally narrow minds of orthodox Delhi parents, to a wider world of love and romance, and an unexpected twist in the tale...Well, don’t miss this ALOO CHAAT, although there’s something spicy missy…
