There is a strange thing about patriotic films. You know what’s going to happen, but your eyes still get moist when it happens. The same will happen to you as well when Kadam Kadam Badhaaye Jaa will play on the screen. This 137-minute soldier versus traitor story is totally worth your time.

The film revolves around the creation of Subhash Chandra Bose’s Indian National Army, and its short-lived but powerful impact. But it is not what it promises to be: the convincing origin story of one of the most fascinating parts of Indian history, and how the soldiers of the INA, were, in a manner, a fraught bridge between the Indian freedom struggle and the British efforts during the second World War.

Thumbs up for bringing in front the lesser-known story from Netaji's forgotten books, thumbs down for not making it engaging enough. Also, in the end, it does make you feel the air of current political scenario. Why only during the saffronisation of the country, one thought of bringing the 'true nationalist' story at the front? A story which in a very subtle way, points finger at the functioning of Indian National Congress right from the fall of British era. Propaganda much? Well, it's for the audience to find out.

Overall, Raag Desh is not a superlative film, particularly because of its treatment, editing and lack of a novel story. But what it excels at is brushing the dust off a forgotten chapter of the history textbooks in a way that we can revisit it, with equal amounts of pride and gratitude.

On the whole, Raag Desh is an average film with an untold factual story. The film could have been much better plus in the era of commercial films, Raag Desh is a niche in its own genre. If you are still patriotic to watch such a film in 2017, then Raag Desh isn't a bad watch.

It gives you numbers and dates and facts and suddenly introduces relatives of the protagonists who have stories of their own. It’s death by information.Had the movie been freed of its half-hearted side-tracks it would have made for great infotainment. It is only half of that word now..

I entered the theatre with a lot of expectations from a film about a chapter from the life of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the man who had immense contributions to India’s freedom movement. But poor execution ruined the film and terrible editing made it absolutely difficult to understand. This Tigmanshu Dhulia directorial will not appeal to every kind of viewer and I’m afraid not everybody will be able to understand or follow it.

Raag Desh Story:

The film is a period drama, based on the Indian National Army set up by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and the war to liberate India from the British Government which was fought on the shores of the Irrawaddy in Burma. The British Government called the soldiers of the INA "renegades and japanese stooges", and a trial was held at the Red Fort in Delhi, which was called the Red Fort Trials of 1945. Raag Desh brings to life that epic trial which paved the way for India's freedom.
