The new film feels like a course correction in many ways. It’s decidedly lighter, both in tone and flab. And the emphasis is clearly on establishing a clutch of fan-favorite characters from the comics and watching them work together as a unit. To that end, director Zack Snyder (with help from Joss Whedon, who finished the film after Snyder stepped back due to a family tragedy) has delivered a reasonably enjoyable romp, but one that isn’t without its problems.Justice League isn’t perfect. But for a movie whose sole purpose is to endear us to new characters and establish a team, it fares perfectly well. I’m going with three out of five. There’s enough to enjoy on this bumpy ride.

Let's get to the good stuff first - this is definitely a highly enjoyable comic book film! Even though the marketing desperately tried to showcase its difference in tone from the rest of the DCEU, most of the chuckle & gasp-worthy scenes land home on the big screen despite being devoid of the surprise element. Some chunks seem to be missing from the story, and although it doesn't come across as incoherent, it feels tremendously rushed along with evidently last-minute CGI patchwork. Clearly, the DCEU is building towards bigger, and hopefully better things, but the course-correction feel is glaringly obvious.

They got the lady who made Wonder Woman and the guy who made The Avengers to come in and make this their story too, but the mess is singificant and, due to there being too many cooks, this is possibly more inconsistent than a solo Snyder film would have been. After the way we lauded the striking lack of male gaze in Patty Jenkins' Wonder Woman, Justice League fixates disappointingly on Gadot's posterior, legs and on Amazon warriors now dressed far skimpier than in the WW movie a few months ago. This is a film that ogles when it should admire, and we all know the difference now.

On the whole, JUSTICE LEAGUE is an average superhero flick and nowhere near the rival Marvel’s THE AVENGERS series. The film’s story is nothing exciting while the characters are interesting but the bond between them is not electrifying as such. This one is only for the die-hard fans! At the box office, with the dubbed version not getting a timely release, its business in India would surely be limited.

Because this Justice League certainly isn’t for everyone, and even as I write this, I wonder if it is for me. It is the sort of movie that can be excruciatingly dumb at any given moment; with forced jokes that have the hit rate of a drunk stormtrooper, jaw-droppingly inane plotting that often pales in comparison to the original DC animated series, but it can also make a houseful crowd of excited fans positively palpitate with pure joy.

Warner Bros. and DC Films had two major goals to achieve with Justice League. First, to cleanse the palette of those turned off by the relentlessly grim BvS; and second, to make viewers enjoy these superheroes enough to want to see further screen appearances by them. Justice League mostly succeeds in accomplishing those two key objectives, despite its sloppy execution. It’s messy and flawed but it still offers enough entertainment value (mostly thanks to its likable characters) to make it worthwhile.
