Annabelle Movie Review

But Annabelle's overall effect could have been enhanced with a more ominous score, as a big part of a horror film's psychological impact lies in its music. Annabelle alights on most horror tropes but comes across as a jack of all trades, but a master of none. Still, it will give you your money's worth, while not really serving you anything too memorable (or scary) as some of the other, more sinister horror films we've seen in the last few years.

Basically, Annabelle is Chucky in drag -- which is funny because drag is the exact term I'd use to describe the film. Coming from the very people who gave us The Conjuring, Annabelle moves slower than a snail trying to book a ticket on the IRCTC website. If you're looking for a scare, look into your 8th grade math textbooks. All that the theatre can offer you in this case is a deep, dreamless sleep.

Overall, due to the generic and formulaic turn of events, their performances do not manage to elicit any emotional support from the audience. Made on a moderate budget, the production quality of the film is above average. Production designer, Bob Ziembicki has managed to recreate the early 1970 era, which is captured by James Kniest's lenses to perfection. Overall, with a few effective scares "Annabelle" is a recycled jamboree of scare flicks that feels like wasted resources

Even with the dry bloodless horror, Annabelle effectively uses shadows and lighting techniques to give a feel of the menacing danger. John R. Leonetti who was also the cinematographer for The Conjuring and Insidious, makes clever use of the wide angles and the special effects. Some of the scenes might give the faint-hearted sleepless nights. But, if you are genuinely willing to get scared, you can give Annabelle a miss.
