Jason Segal and Cameron Diaz who made for a charming double act in Bad Teacher (which Kasdan directed) can't quite make this flaccid script work, although Diaz in particular really works those comic chops. At 94 minutes the film still feels overlong and unnecessary, never even delivering the cheap thrills promised in its title. I'm going with a generous one out of five for Sex Tape. Not tonight, honey; this will give you a headache.

Long stretches of Sex Tape feel unnecessary and even boring. The problem is one of warmth. With jokes working in bits but never as a whole, there is a sense of detachment to it all; maybe it's Segel's presence, but there are times the movie feels like a sitcom episode, with the writers really labouring over the trope. The result is decidedly cold.It isn't awful, there are laughs, but it's nothing you'd remember or recommend.

Despite initial sparks of naughtiness in the narrative, it now descends into the depths of overdone goofiness. It is honestly only an actress of Diaz's spunk and talent who saves the film from meandering into a morass of cliches. There's humour in here for sure, but some more of that playful silliness in between the unnecessary bits would have made this a better watch.

The film largely concerns Annie and Jay running around town retrieving those iPads one single night and second guessing who may or may not have seen their video. In the course of it, there is cocaine, a killer dog, an infantile boss and friends who are enjoying the most from Annie and jay’s apparent misery. There is a hint towards Internet porn being not all that bad and oversexualised teens being not all that innocent.
