The Secret Life of Walter Mitty Review

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times of India (TOI)
When photojournalist Sean O'Connell (Penn) sends him a roll of film one day, it has one missing negative. Walter tries to track down O'Connell and locate the negative. As Walter travels, he slowly metamorphoses from the socially awkward gimp into the man he's always dreamed of becoming. Penn gives O'Donnell the right amount of enigmatic, distant charm. Walter's mom Edna (MacLaine) has a brief but impactful presence. Although Stiller has acted in far-out films like Zoolander before, this one gives viewers another side to this actor - one who can handle such ambitious films with ease.

Beautifully shot and easy on the eyes, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is thoroughly engaging. Never before have I seen a room full of some of the sternest critics in town refusing to leave their seats, expecting more as the titles begin to roll in. Although you do end up guessing the twists in the tale, it doesn't disappoint. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is not about calculating Walter's next step, its about sharing a mesmerising, unexpected journey. The Secret Life of Walter Mitty is the triumph of the human spirit over human existence.

The movie is a visual treat. You get immersed in the sublime beauty all through the film. Walter’s life is shown with changing color tones. With a wonderful soundtrack, you get to be a part of this amazing journey. Ben Stiller does a fantastic job directing as well as acting. Now for the bad news. As the movie goes from one visual spectacle to another, there isn’t anything that leaps out. However, the audience will get the feeling that the ending leaves something to be desired. Overall the film is a visual adventure about life.
