Inside Llewyn Davis Review

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times of India (TOI)
Depicting a week in the life of folk singer Llewyn Davis who is struggling to hit the big time, this film is set in Greenwich Village. Many of the difficulties that Llewyn has to deal with are unwittingly of his own making. Generously laced with dark humour and part-melancholic, Inside Llewyn Davis is full of clever Coen-isms and the film's soundtrack too is wonderful. This one makes for some compelling viewing. Note: You may not like this film if you don't like slow arty films.

As does this fantastic film. It might just be A Mighty Wind in extreme close-up, or the Coens filling in another blankly open-ended tale as brilliantly as only they can, but the thing to remember about Inside Llewyn Davis is that while it might not be new, it never gets old.

The film is a typical "Coen" film, with uncharacteristic heroes and weather playing a major role in the narration. This contributes to the already testy nature of the characters and reinforces that some battles are just not to be won. Nevertheless this is a pleasant enough film, which features its share of standout moments and is a welcome change especially for those who care about the kind of music it honours.
