Astier, Clichy and crew have - in terms of renderings and dialogues - stayed very faithful to Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo's beloved characters and have dished out something that is both briskly-paced as well as entertaining enough for its core audience, children. This one makes for some fairly delightful viewing.

The story is something kids (but not audiences of all ages) might enjoy, but it leaves a little to be desired, considering it could have taken a few risks story-telling-wise. Adapting it to modern times rather than stick to universal themes? Technically and visually, there's nothing one can complain about one would imagine. But there's so much more to animation effort for it to go the long run. More could have been done here, one feels, heavy nostalgia notwithstanding.

Visually the frames are colourful and the animation lively. The characters animated beautifully in 3D are faithfully recreated. You feel that they’ve leapt straight out of the pages of the comic. Overall, despite its appeal and lovability, the film misses to add depth and gravitas to a full-on Asterix Adventure.
