Desi Kattey Hindi Movie Review

This one rips into the heart of the hinterland once again - with homegrown bullets, gundas and of course, other desi toppings (read: item number!). Simply put, it's a convoluted tale of two friends looking down from different sides of the same smoking barrel. There's a scene in the film where Pali shoots with his eyes shut during a world championship. I wonder if the team that created this film did it the same way - with their eyes half-shut.

Amidst all this madness, the story moves quickly from a myth-busting quest to a myth-affirming oddity faster than the feisty college-goers, to whom Sunny is narrating his Rudra Mills story, realise what’s going on. For horror film lovers, 3 AM will evoke more chuckles than chills.

It seems like the film's producer-director Anand Kumar had totally run out of ideas when he was conceptualizing this film, and maybe that's why he ended up creating a royal mash up of many Hindi film plots. How else would you explain the plot of DESI KATTEY looking like a GUNDAY meets CHAK DE INDIA meets a lot of other Hindi films'! The director has to be blamed in totality for DESI KATTEY, which starts off on a slow note in the bearable first half, but gets endlessly stretched in the totally boring, senseless and meaningless second half. All in all, DESI KATTEY is strictly an avoidable fare.

The point of this kind of film is to be completely male-centric, guns-as-phallus, mine-is-bigger-than-yours.Sunil Shetty looks gray and drawn. The only one who catches the eye is Ashutosh Rana, who has done this kind of role before, but bites into it with relish, regardless. But even he isn’t worth the shattered ear-drums.

Desi Kattey is the kind of film that makes me curse my otherwise really likeable job. Why on earth would someone decide to spend so much money in making a film that reads ordeal all over it. There is nothing good about the film and it doesn’t even try its hand to rise above its tedious storyline. It is not only a mere tirade, this one is an intolerable ruckus.
