While it isn't in the league of, say, Insidious or The Ring, Deliver Us From Evil packs in a mixed bag of thrills that is, at times, deeply disturbing by virtue of using the kind of horror tropes that are more psychological than gory. Rather than being a gore fest throughout, the film is more about an examination of the protagonist's faith in God as well as how he deals with the guilt of past sins that he has not confessed.

Deliver Us from Evil is backed by an experienced director and a brilliant cast. The story is good, the horror element is ever-present, and no matter who you are, it WILL make you jump in your seat every now and then. It doesn’t matter if you are a fan of modern-day blood and gore, or classic exorcism flicks, this movie has something for everyone.

Sergeant Ralph Sarchie (Bana) of NYPD, who pieces together what’s happening quickly enough but then goes about resolving it inexplicably slowly. In the process, Deliver Us From Evil, after a taut, thrill-filled start, goes slack, gory and repetitive till finally ending in an over-the-top, extended exorcism that leaves us none the wiser on what the fuss was all about.
