3 A.M borrows from Paranormal Activity and Mirrors to a certain extent. That's not an issue since most horror films lack originality. However, this film fails to match up to the scares and chills provided by its Hollywood predecessors, that make you go numb with fear.  3 A.M is a conversation-heavy horror film. If that doesn't put you off, you can give it a shot. Else, watch Insidious or The Conjuring once again on DVD.

Amidst all this madness, the story moves quickly from a myth-busting quest to a myth-affirming oddity faster than the feisty college-goers, to whom Sunny is narrating his Rudra Mills story, realise what’s going on. For horror film lovers, 3 AM will evoke more chuckles than chills.

The special effects are toned-down and done effectively. Most of the time 3 A.M. cruises along exploring the bond between this life and the afterlife without getting tangled in spiritual polemics. Miraculously the horror film avoids the excesses of the genre. It's done in tempered-down tones and the storytelling tapers down to a well thought-out finale.

Right from the onset, the film seems highly inspired from the Hollywood flick PARANORMAL ACTIVITY that created a sensation on its release. However, as the film progresses, you can't help but see the similarities it has to the GHOST HUNTERS show that airs on Discovery channel.On the whole, 3 AM does manage to be a bit scary, unfortunately, it is limited to certain parts that are few and far between and the film comes across as a weak attempt.

3 AM is the demonic hour when spirits chill between our world and theirs, turning into human-consuming menaces There's initial promise, a well-paced setup, even a few spooky moments that involve the usual grainy-footage night-vision scenes, but it all ends with the arrival of terms like 'black magic', 'mill inferno' and, of course, Bhagavad Gita. Post-interval, the mess begins. Many call it the curse of the dreaded second half, but it's just criminally lethargic writing: a love song is shamelessly slotted into a portion that bizarrely looks like a separate film, destroying the daunting mill atmosphere.

If you know the film’s ending from one of its first few scenes, it cannot be good horror. But still 3AM, attempts to make a film out of Rannvijay’s MTV experiences which if they had ideally stuck to would make a really scary film. But to force inject commercial factors and resorting to Bollywood’s ideas of horror fare, makes 3AM another mediocre attempt. You can watch 3AM but there is nothing new, nothing great or nothing specific to recommend it for.
