Manjunath  Hindi Movie Reviews

Ratings:3.5/5 Review By: Taran Adarsh Site:Bollywood Hungama
As a film, MANJUNATH works in totality. Director Sandeep Varma presents the heroic deeds of Manjunath, putting together the events meticulously and crafting an engaging film around him. It's an honest endeavour that oozes sincerity. A courageous attempt, since the storyteller remains faithful to the subject material. On the whole, MANJUNATH documents the story of Manjunath Shanmugam in a life-like way. It is realistic, brave and powerful. Watch it!

You might find it a little boring, perhaps even insipid in the beginning and frustrating around the interval but you will be rewarded in the end.  It was in these circumstances that Manjunath chose to be different, while completely aware of the consequences of his courage, and stood up for what he believed in. This film is more about experiencing hope than it is about paying attention to the technical aspects and the unfortunate socio-political climate that prevails around us makes it a must-watch. Manjunath is a lesson in humanity we all need at the moment.

There’s enough, in the way the film begins, to keep us engaged. The second half is an unfortunate slide. The killers, led by brazen petrol pump owner Golu Goel (Sharma) slide away into the undergrowth, leaving us Manju’s bullet-ridden body in the middle of a market. It is a slap on our collective consciousness , that car and that body, and the film achieves that moment with minimum fuss, maximum impact. But then it moves over into the investigation, and the court case, and becomes a police-law procedural

Once a while there comes along a man who genuinely wants to change the world we live in. Manjunath is the hard hitting conscientious story of one one braveheart who tried to make a difference. And paid with his life. Manjunath's valorous story had to be told. The director pieces together Manjunath's story like Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. As every piece of the jigsaw falls into place you want to salute the unsung hero. Thank god for Manjunath, who is not a man but a metaphor for that rapidly evaporating cult of idealism that we thought died with Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

I am still in two minds about the film. Though Manjunath is a concept that is hailed for all the right reasons, the film’s execution is badly done. If a powerful film like this doesn’t break your heart or choke you up, there are far too many faults in the film’s tapestry than that can apparently be spotted. I won’t say don’t watch the film. The potential matter at hand is enough to try watching it but don’t expect too much.
