Night At The Museum 3: Secret Of The Tomb English Movie Review

During a special event at the Museum of Natural History, the 'living' exhibits start to act very strangely. This is because of a curse contained within an ancient Egyptian tablet housed in the museum. Larry (Stiller) needs to find out how to get to the source of the tablet's magic in order to get things right again. This fairly entertaining kiddie comedy is full of funny little asides and exchanges that keep the pace going. And of special note is Robin Williams' heartwarming performance, tinged with the kind of jocularity and poignancy that only he could pull off. Fun viewing for the holidays.

This isn't to say that Night at the Museum 3 is a bad film, or even a boring one. It has its moments and does manage to coax some laughs out of you. Repetitive and a tad cheesy, Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb would have warned moviegoers better of its overly Christmas-y intentions were it named 'Once Upon a Time in the Museum Dobaara!'

As in the previous movies, Secret of the Tomb buckles under the weight of its phenomenally talented cast who just aren't given enough to do, making it feel more like a movie of cameos rather than a true ensemble work. That said, Owen Wilson and Steve Coogan, once again, provide many of the film's laughs as the pint-sized Jedediah and Octavius_as does Ricky Gervais as the wimpy museum director. In the end, Secret of the Tomb certainly wasn't necessary, but its earnest goofiness is hard to resist. The bittersweet goodbye to Mr Williams just makes it all the more worthwhile.

The film offers a fresh perspective on the relationship of Larry and Nick. It runs parallel to that of Ahkmenrah (Rami Malek) and his father Merenkahre (Ben Kingsley). Larry is a protective father, but Nick wants to be independent. Larry’s constant dilemma is evident as the story progresses. The emotional moments between the father-son duo are touching. The visual effects are top-notch, while the story is simple. The film doesn’t run longer than two hours. Ben Stiller is easy on the eyes. Watch out for a surprising cameo towards the end!
