The casting looks flawed too. None of the actors look or behave like Kabaddi players, competing in a 'state-level' tournament. While predictability of the plot can be forgiven since most sports-based films are about underdogs emerging victorious, the story must strike a chord with the audience, which doesn't happen here. Kabaddi deserves a better film.

BADLAPUR BOYS is the directorial debut of Shailesh Verma, whose efforts look sincere in highlighting the game of kabaddi on a national level. But his inexperience as a director starts showing in the film every now and then. The film has its share of 'less of ups and more of downs' right from the word go. Varma, in an attempt to tell too many things within the stipulated time frame, loses the plot in the bargain. Despite having two heroines in the film, he fails to do justice to even one. On the whole, BADLAPUR BOYS is an average film which can be avoided.

film’s plot is riddled with mothballed cliches. A father gives up his life, a son is left moping, and a mother constantly crying. The ‘kabaddi boys’ are more ‘men’, and the treatment makes it banal and dull. You are engaged only when the game is on, and it appears to have been executed with some authenticity : that should have been the sole focus of the film.

Badlapur Boys, a remake of Tamil hit Vennila Kabadi Kuzhu, is yet another unfortunate account of a sport that doesn't deserve to play second fiddle anymore. This film is surreal in its lack of structure, tone and motivation.

As is the case with films about sports, the second half is where the energy reaches its peak but unfortunately, in this one the second half and the climax turn out to be total dampeners. From what started out as a rooted, believable story, the flow goes on to become a rather too convenient and silly storyline in the second half.
