Lone Survivor Movie Reviews

Ratings:4/5 Review By: Gavin Rasquinha Site:Times of India (TOI)

The film's action is brutal and relentless, leaving the embattled men notime to even finish a sentence before an RPG goes off or a machine gun stitches the ground in front of them. They are shot, sustain gory wounds in almost forensic detail and are relentlessly riddled by shrapnel. That aside, the film never once ventures into partisanship or jingoism. The fact that war really is hell is always kept front and centre throughout. Tobias Schliesser's cinematography is brilliant. This one's an adrenaline- packed ride all the way. Note: You may not like this film if you don't like action.

Why Berg chose to make a film about one in a hundred more strategically important battles of a war that is not doing America any good, I will never figure out. It will take a particular fetish for war to be able to sit through Lone Survivor. You will find yourself struggling to make it to the interval. Lone Survivor is Hollywood’s Lakshya -- except, without the spunk, the entertainment factor and Hrithik Roshan. This is not a film. This is a test; And of all the people I sat in the theatre with, I think I have emerged the lone survivor.

Even though you know right from the start where the film is headed, Peter Berg manages to keep you glued to your seat and engrossed in this high intensity war film. This film puts in front of you the worst possibilities of warfare. Not many may like the fact that Afghan villagers are the heroes here but this film says the story as it is.Lone Survivor is pulled out of the real world and it's unforgettable!

Lone Survivor isn't as gritty as Hurt Locker or smart as Zero Dark Thirty and there are moments when we feel like we are watching an episode from Homeland or 24. The combat scenes fall short of impressing us and get into a rut after a while. If you enjoy a good war film then Lone Survivor won't disappoint. Watch it for the terrific cast and some intense battle scenes.

Though the movie starts off slow-paced, it gains momentum as soon as the disastrous Operation Red Wing gets under way. Lone Survivor is an impressive war movie that is fast-paced, intense, intriguing, enduring, taut, realistic and one that definitely deserves your time.
