First things first! GUNDAY is smartly penned, lavishly mounted and sharply edited… and it carpet bombs the spectators with every trick in the book. The bromance, the romance, the gunday versus cop clash, the burst of colors, the unpredictable screenwriting coupled with smart lines, the spray of bullets… the director, who has also penned the film, makes sure he leaves his stamp all over the film. On the whole, GUNDAY has a credible story to tell, is packed with unexpected twists that keep you on the edge and offers entertainment in large doses. His story offers little novelty as it follows the tried and tested path of two bosom pals falling in love with the same girl, falling out with each other because of that, etc. His screenplay is replete with scenes one has seen in the films of the 1970s and 1980s. On the whole, Gunday is an ordinary fare with two aspects going hugely in its favour – very good music and the flying start it has taken. Gunday's heart is in the right place but the plot gets overwhelmed by its own voluptuousness, its slick torsos and slow-motion slaps, its extended Durga Puja which leaves it lost between Calcutta's cabarets and Dhanbad's dark mines. Gunday is the sort of film some people may mistakenly call a bromance. There is, however, nothing bro-tastic at all about this loud and slow-motion actioner, a film that tries hard to be old-school but proves only that its makers need to be schooled. Calling it a throwback seems insulting enough; imagine the Once Upon A Time In Mumbai films without Ajay Devgan, Emraan Hashmi and Akshay Kumar.Visit Site for more

For all its swagger and insolence, the script is full of silly loopholes, annoying clichés and glaring superficiality. No matter how hard Zafar tries to create an action hero that speaks Amitabh Bachchan/Anil Kapoor/Raaj Kumar (at one point I could almost hear "Jaani" before Kapoor's Bala declares, "Yeh tevar humare khoon main hai") he fails to substantiate it with charisma that goes beyond surface value.Finally, there’s Irrfan Khan, wearing the expression of a man standing in the middle of a mess -- that is Gunday.Visit Site for more

Gunday is smartly mounted and studded with a few lively song and dance routines. But the parts do not quite come together to create a gripping whole. It really is difficult to keep a two-and-a-half-hour film from losing its wheels when its engine room is bereft of the propellant of genuine inspiration. Gunday is like the dusty minefields it is set in. Its loud explosions deliver loads of coal, but no trace of any diamonds. In the name of plot, we get a mash-up of many popular blockbusters, several of them belonging to Yashraj, the producers of this one. In the name of acting, we get pumped up beefcake and one number plumped-lip eye candy. What you get is what you’ve been getting. Over and over again. Both Ranveer Singh, who is a little more effective than his ‘jodi-daar’, and Arjun Kapoor, tread the same path that Bachchan and co did forty years back, and get very little out of it for themselves.Visit Site for more

The entire look and feel of the movie is of 80s Bollywood. It`s like travelling back in time, where there were no metro-sexual heroes and the modern heroines. It is not a Valentine day date, but the men should make a day out to celebrate their friendship with this movie. Not sure if it's a perfect film to watch on Valentines Day but let me assure you that you won't regret paying for the ticket of this film. It's packed with action, emotions, friendship, drama and some terrific performances. Post the interval there are many twists and turns that keep the film engaging. The film works very well because of the chemistry between the boys and that's the USP of this film. Gunday is an entertaining film. Despite Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor’s camaraderie living up to the expected measure of outstanding and Priyanka looking every bit heavenly as Nandita, the screenplay is plagued with predictability. Gunday is not a bad film but falls miles short of what was expected of it. It is Irrfan Khan’s hypnotic cameo which works off the sole whiff for magic for this clumsy film that indulges in superfluities more than substance. A sexy show gone dull but nevertheless deserves to be watched for the oomph show and bombastic dialogues that have gone missing from films now-a-days.Visit Site for more

Despite being packed with liberal servings of kitsch and colourful quirks from the flamboyant 70s, three good-looking actors and incredible tunes reminiscent of a glorious past, Ali Abbas Zafar’s visual extravaganza ‘Gunday’ doesn’t have enough soul to have us hooked.
