Babloo Happy Hai Movie Review

On the whole, though bold and rather brave to base a film on AIDS and relationships, with excellent cinematography, the makers could have done with a better screenplay, with more details on dialogues and better comic gags. The archaic and no-longer-funny one-liners are a sore thumb that seldom draws out a laugh.

Is Babloo an entertaining mass-market film for youngsters or made with a serious intention to fight AIDS and look after its survivors? The film faces an identity crisis. It implies a tension between the filmmaker's vision and the genre's demands, diluting its core purpose. The subplots and songs are entertaining but don't add any value to the narrative and there lies its fault. You also wonder why it has been promoted as an adult comedy! Also, the title bears no relevance to the story. Babloo Happy Hai encourages you to be cautious without being preachy. It's fairly entertaining but loses focus and wanders around aimlessly, just like its protagonists' road trip.

Embracing a heartfelt and a raging social issue, the film, Babloo Happy Hai comes out as a close to reality yet a very mushy movie. A good storyline with loose ends; the film irks you with some cheesy dialogues and incomprehensible sequences. Despite all the flaws, the film gives away an essential social message and in a much mature way handles the issue of LGBT, all the while stressing on the importance of relationships. One point five rating only for the way it handles the social issue without tampering it a bit!
