Bajatey Raho Movie Review

However, unlike the over-the-top humor that we are subjected to in most films, the humor is understated in BAJATEY RAHO. Since much of the first half goes in establishing each of the characters, the pace appears sluggish, with the romantic track [featuring Tusshar and Vishakha Singh] standing out like a sore thumb. Fortunately, the narrative gathers momentum post interval as the motley crew gear up for their biggest con yet. It is this episode that elevates the film a notch above the ordinary. Additionally, with a run time of 1.47 hours, the film manages to keep you in your seat for most parts. On the whole, BAJATEY RAHO is quite entertaining with an absorbing second half. Decent entertainer!

Bajatey Raho is the kind of film that cuts for a good promo. It has the requisite visual elements coupled with a satirical song that hints at a perfect combination of a Khosla ka Ghosla meets Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye resulting in a small, sincere caper entertainer. Unfortunately, it ends up as an unconvincing, unfunny, and yet another movie looking to cash in on the Delhi-milieu wave. Lesson learned: never judge a movie by its trailer.

In his third outing in Bollywood, Shashant Shah, who has been previously credited with Dasvidaniya (2008) and Chalo Dilli (2011), attempts a light-hearted comedy based out of sadda Dilli. Predominantly Punjabi-flavoured, the film is one of those of linear, comic capers with a slight drama that makes you smile, though the situations and characters are cliched. A film without star-power depends largely on convincing performances. Dolly Ahluwalia, on a roll since Vicky Donor, is adept as are Ravi Kishan, Tusshar, Ranveer and Vinay. While two of the songs are passable, an aarti based on a popular Bollywood tune and the item song - main naagin dance nachna—are paisa vasool.

Zafar A. Khan’s story is predictable and devoid of novelty. The screenplay, penned by him, with additional screenplay by Sanjeev Mehta, is also very routine and fails to offer both, thrill and comedy. Although a couple of twists and turns in the drama do come as a surprise, the major part of the drama progresses in an unexciting manner, which fails to involve the audience. On the whole, Bajatey Raho is a dull fare devoid of entertainment value. It neither entertains with its comedy nor thrills with its action and drama. Flop.

Bajatey Raho is about how a bunch of unlikely avengers get into the act, and put things to rights. There's some spark in the idea because who doesn't like a baddie to get his comeuppance? And there are some good actors here. But the film turns out to be clichéd and largely choppy: an idea by itself is never enough, it's what you do with it that counts.

Bajaaey Raho thankfully skips several stereotypes it could have used and sticks to a more rational script. However, the first 30 minutes of the film may seem a little bit of a drag (especially the part involving Sukhi and Manpreet’s romance) and the story picks up pace only after a while, which may not be a good thing considering its run time of 107 minutes. Bajaate Raho is kind of sweet in its own Three Musketeer-ish kind of way but gets a little predictable after a while. The plot is also frequently interrupted by songs. Bajaate Raho had a whole lot of potential. Sadly, not all of it was realised.

Severely hobbled by a banal plot premise, Bajatey Raho does not drum up any real joy. Not that it is devoid of a hook to hang its wafer-thin storyline on. A little more effort and imagination might have made the film two hours of harmless fun. Director Shashant A Shah, in his third Bollywood outing, strives hard to deliver a rib-tickler. But his film does not rise to the kind of comic crescendo one expects from an intended laugh riot.Bajatey Raho does not play it right. Off-key and overly contrived, it is a pretty ordinary effort that is not even mildly engaging.

What’s Good: Dolly Ahluwalia’s acting and the novelty in the concept itself. What’s Bad: Improperly used actors and an unnecessary dash of over dramatizing. Watch or Not?: Bajatey Raho is a disappointing and sluggish clone version of Dibakar Banerjee’s immensely entertaining Khosla Ka Ghosla. Working along a similar plot, the film wastes its brilliant actors and makes an insipid, contrived film. It is a bumpy film that you can absolutely avoid!
