D-DAY tackles a knotty issue and it's imperative that Nikhil stays close to authenticity. The demanding plot and the edgy, gritty and raw situations, besides the ambience [recreating Karachi], makes this espionage thriller so different from the gangster films we have witnessed on the Hindi screen thus far. The four patriots, each with a back story, joining hands for a common mission, their expedition and how the hunters become the hunted in the neighbouring country gives the film that edge and power that's hard to expunge from memory. On the whole, D-DAY is what a well-made thriller ought to be -- taut, transfixing and spellbinding, with an astounding finale. Don't miss this high-octane thriller!

Following up on his exceptional Delhi Safari, Director Nikhil Advani continues to reinvent himself with D-Day, a well-crafted, violent drama balanced with an introspective mood that can loosely be indexed under historical fiction. The first half is slightly stretched (a subconscious connection made when Goldman intones with a gun to head "Trigger kheech, maamla mat kheech") but it is offset by the characters' helplessness evoking an unsettling feeling in the second half. D-Day opens up a small new genre in Hindi cinema, and what really worked for me is that this is truly a new age patriotic film, one without the baggage of jingoism.

On the whole, D-Day is an enjoyable fare and one which inspires a feeling of patriotism in the viewers. But it is more for the evolved audience. Its showcasing in the multiplexes is bad and, coupled with its poor start and unexciting title, this will mar the film’s box-office prospects and potential. Of course, collections will pick up due to positive word of mouth but the dull start is bound to play the proverbial villain, in the final tally. The film will win critical acclaim and will be a strong contender in many categories at the awards. Its business will be more in the cinemas frequented by class audiences and in the big cities.

Straight up, D-Day is explosive at three levels. The plot crackles. The acting sears. And the music flares with passion.But this being Bollywood, the plot can't escape emotional excursions. Some - Rudra's love-life, Zoya's break-up - adds a halwa-like heaviness to this Karachi. But the second half refreshes your palate, sizzling sequences between Wali, Rudra and Iqbal Seth leaving you open-mouthed, the 'c' in this climax clearly for controversy. Catch it - this 'D' company denotes both debate and desh-prem. Note: You may not like this movie if you don't enjoy violent thrillers where things go off with a bang.

D-Day is what people like me wait Friday after Friday for. It does what it needs to and does not preach but leaves an impact strong enough to make you ask questions. It manages to bring out patriotism in you without the theatrics. It has it all -- an iron-clad story, strong characters, believable performances and music you’ll want to put on loop for the a few days. Complete with subtle references, pinches of dark humour and ironic symbolism, this is a film you didn’t know you’d been waiting for until you see it on the big screen. A million lines with be written in its praise, I am sure, but to put it simply -- D-Day is a dream come true.

A mission impossible forms the crux of Nikhil Advani's D-Day. But the film's treatment of the story of derring-do, desperate measures and doom remains firmly within the realms of the possible. The director deserves full marks on that score. D-Day is a well-researched, purposefully executed film. Much of the action takes places in 'actual' Karachi locations. D-Day is replete with such unusual touches. It is another matter that all of them do not eventually come together to make a cohesive whole. Yet, for all its flaws, this is a film good enough to merit a trip to the multiplex.

D-Day is a surprising package from a director known so far largely for harmless, fail-safe stories with big stars. Parallels have been drawn with A Mighty Heart, even Zero Dark Thirty, but that's only because all three films are set in what passes for Pakistan. However, whether it's the markets where a shootout is picturised, the chawl-like hostel where the four agents hide out, or the wedding of Seth's son, D-Day's imagining of Karachi is entirely Indian and far more intimate. Advani should take a bow, as for the most part, it works.

Nikhil Advani makes a gripping, tense film on a tight budget and minus an A-List actor. And proves just how is accomplished a director he is. He tells you a strong, coherent story that makes you wish was based on a true incident. I would go as far as saying this is a genre-creating film.What to do: Watch it. This film deserves and an audience. PS: You will like if this you liked A Wednesday, Tango Charlie, Parzania

What’s Good: Without an ounce of jingoism, the film’s plain, non-judgmental storytelling with a thought provoking narrative is ace. Rishi Kapoor and Irrfan Khan put up a marvellous show!What’s Bad: The editing in the film’s latter half could have been tauter. Watch or Not?: Nikhil Advani’s D-Day traces a labyrinthine story of India’s unsung war heroes. With its chilling action scenes and thrilling emotional quotient, D-Day is perhaps one of recent times’ most rivetingly told stories. With Bollywood celebrating Dawood mostly, here’s a filmmaker who has made a daunting movie which effortlessly gives the character its correct hue.

If you were wondering ‘D-Day’ is just a film about RAW agents and their mission then you were thoroughly wrong. Directed by Nikhil Advani, ‘D-Day’ gives you an optimistic visual reference to what could indeed be achieved, should one put in all what is needed to get hold of that one man – who tops India’s most wanted list. In totality, ‘D-Day’ throws light on those unsung heroes who sacrifice everything, even their identities for the nation.

It’s edgy. It’s gritty. It’s something purists might find tough to stomach. Yet, it’s something that can’t be ignored. Never have we seen men fight and punch with such raw, terrorizing rage, impacting us immeasurably. Taking into account that India’s infamous don has found innumerable references in Bollywood frames, mostly those that romanticizes his misgivings, it’s truly commendable that there’s one filmmaker who dared to break that tradition. Nikhil’s solution would (literally) blow your mind away, and would most definitely be applauded.
