Hindi movie fans have clearly lucked out. Only four months into 2016, they have already been treated to three amazing true stories brought to the big screen with elan. Traffic extends the trend represented by Airlift and Neerja. Unfortunately, the director is no longer around to bask in the glory. He died in late February, aged only 41. Traffic, both the original and its Hindi version, will forever bear testimony to the magnitude of the loss that Pillai's untimely death represents for cinema. This is a fitting swan song: an unmissable film.

While I was engaged with the goings-on in the original, which borrows from ‘Amores Perros’ to craft multiple threads featuring multiple characters all converging on one point, I found myself tuning out in this one, because the crispness and the sense of urgency is missing. Even if you haven’t seen the first, which spun off remakes in Tamil and Kannada, this one stutters.

The characters and key-plot situations are seamlessly interwoven. There are some predictable playing-to-the-gallery religious sentiments introduced to get the desired results. But this can be overlooked because at it's core, this is a well-intentioned film with fine performances from its ensemble cast. Special mentions are reserved for Manoj Bajpayee and Jimmy Sheirgill, who are A-grade. Though, they're just in extended cameos; these two effortlessly rise above the length of their roles. You shouldn't make a detour to avoid this traffic.

A remake of the 2011 Malayalam film by the same name, Traffic is about the victory of determination and goodwill over human insecurities. It is a rare gripping thriller in Bollywood that also touches the right emotional chords.

Disappointing direction and boring story which focuses on excessive emotional drama. Doesn’t give justice to the true events of the story.Traffic is a disappointing movie which fails to justify the true events. Boring, lengthy and more focused on a drama rather than the core topic of organ transplant in traffic conditions. Apart from Manoj Bajpayee’s sharp performance, the film has nothing to offer. My rating would be 2 out of 5 stars.
