The film is handsomely mounted, and the scenes shot at Trinity College Cambridge are particularly impressive. But because the film never truly succeeds in conveying Ramanujan’s accomplishments, it remains a mostly superficial affair. I’m going with two out of five.

Toby Jones as Littlewood and Jeremy Northam as Bertrand Russell lend good support to the narrative and the film.Story wise, the makers have done a fine job to keep it to the point. Thanks to Matt Brown for making a film on this mathematician genius who certainly deserves to known in his own country.PS: At the end, the makers disclose a few more facts about Ramanujan and how his work made a difference and that just blew my mind. No wonder, I walked out of the theatre as a proud Indian.

The biggest challenge Matthew Brown could have faced when making this film might have been making math look interesting enough on screen to keep viewers hooked. But he manages to do so, thanks to Patel's fairly straightforward portrayal of the brilliant Ramanujan. The period detailing - be it a rustic locale or sophisticated surroundings - is quite superb. Brown also tries to give the story an emotional touch, to good effect. And in fact, it is this which makes this film both enjoyable and gripping.

On the whole, THE MAN WHO KNEW INFINITY is worth watching as it makes an earnest attempt in enlightening viewers about a great mind who left an incredible mark in the field of Mathematics. Though there are some great performances and sequences, the shortcomings make it just a one-time watch.
