Right from the time the film starts till the last frame if the film, the viewer is subjected to a roller coaster ride of their patience, courtesy the poor direction. Where on earth will one find a reputed and famous detective, utter limericks in almost every second line of his conversation! Even though the director has infused multitude of characters in order to create confusion in the minds of the viewers, he fails miserably in establishing their individual identities. Many of the side actors land up looking like mere props in the film. All in all, SAMRAT AND CO is a major letdown, certain elements notwithstanding.Visit Site for more

The film is predominantly a formulaic 'whodunit' thriller, which aspires to be Sherlock Holmes but ends up looking like its parody. This too opens with a bare-knuckle, slow-mo boxing scene like Guy Ritchie's film (starring Robert Downey Jr.), but thereafter, fails to instill a sense of fear or anxiety, thanks to the excessive dialogue. While it's brave of the conservative Rajshri productions to take the leap - from family dramas to thrillers, the effort should have been more compelling. Kaushik Ghatak and Manish Shrivastav have penned a story and screenplay which start on an interesting note but soon lose steam. Too much happens too fast as a result of which the happenings fail to create the desired impact. Kaushik Ghatak’s direction is ordinary. The thrills and chills of a suspense drama are missing in his narration. On the whole, Samrat & Co. lacks the thrill needed in a suspense drama and will, therefore, not be able to entertain the audience. A blatant, unashamed and at times, scene-by-scene copy of films like Sherlock Holmes, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows and Bhoolbhulaiya, Samrat & Co. might have a good enough screenplay burried somewhere beneath all the trash but none of it shows in the execution.Samrat & Co might be about an extraordinarily observational man's fight against crime but as far as cinema goes, this film is a crime against the genre..Visit Site for more

There’s a tribute paid upfront to Sherlock Holmes, but the filmmakers are also fans of Robert Downey Jr’s playing of the great detective. Rajeev Khandelwal, who plays STD, is to be found in a ring, just the way Downey Jr did, pulping an opponent, and then making a young lady’s jaw drop by his rapid-fire deductions about where she is from, and how long she has travelled to get to him. I’m all for murder mysteries and brainy sleuths, but this one made me slump in my chair. The biggest mystery remains : when will we get a great one?Visit Site for more

After a late screening, I hailed a rickshaw while furiously trying to decode Rajeev Khandelwal's tribute to BenedictCumberbatch. Samrat Tilakdhari aka STD is based on Sherlock Holmes too. Driver: Unusual pupil constriction in your cornea suggests excessive eye-rolling and stupefied blinking. You were displeased that Samrat was part-kickboxer like Robert Downey Jr. and partsociopath like Cumberbatch-a combination most unsatisfactory in a Rajshri setup.Visit Site for more

A mismanaged desi version of Sherlock Holmes, Samrat & Co throws up more mysteries and questions about its badly written plot than the ones we are expected to watch. Heavily borrowed from Robert Downey Jr's critically acclaimed film, there is hardly any original material worth mentioning. Aiming to be a thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat the film ends up making you restless and going for multiple breaks than following the cliched ridden plot.Visit Site for more
